Why no sequel for the loose ends? (SPOILERS)

The film was very well written and acted, but it clearly left loose ends- what was the op result? Did Maureen and Gerry work out? What would the family at home think of Sheila's teenage rape by their hero 'Uncle Pete'?

The film works best as a British working class story in a run-down estate, hence Gerry's gags, but couldn't a story have been written around Sheila et al returning to the UK (they would have to in order to work, kids at school, etc).

Gerry could continue waiting for donors, maybe find one in the UK (he mentioned that doctors were looking for them in Europe?) but visiting England?

I think there should have been a sequel; at least show how the surgery turned out and if the match "took."

Lots of unanswered questions: what about Maureen's and Sheila's jobs? Were their employers willing to give them time off, or did they quit? What about the kids' school? Did Maureen just yank them out, or were they on vacation? How did they get passports so quickly? I'm sure they didn't have any, since they could never afford to travel out of the UK.

I absolutely loved Julie Walters' performance.

I'm not sure if Jerry and Maureen would have worked out. If he recovered, he couldn't very well chuck his job and move to the UK. Would he be allowed to practice there, or would he have to take a licensing exam or something? He'd hate living at Sheila's. If Maureen & the kids stayed in the US with him, they'd have a hard time adjusting; kids in a new school & different culture. His friends, aside from Howard, might have looked down on Maureen. I think if they stayed, she would enroll in college.

Re/Jerry waiting for donors, the situation was too critical to wait any longer. The chance of a good match in Europe were slim. A long-distance relationship with Maureen would be very hard to sustain.

It really was a good move, though.

What sequel?... How about wrapping up all those loose ends before the movie ends. Why should we have to wait to know how it all turns out? This was a movie not a soap opera.

I agree, this movie was well written, had quality acting from everyone. Really pulled me in. I guess that's why I wish there was more resolution at the end. I guess the focus was more on the family connections made instead of the medical outcome. Still...I want to know if it worked!!!
