Julie Walters as mother to Paul Reiser

Julie Walter born 1950 is only 7 years older than Paul Reiser born 1957 but plays his mother.

Poetic license.

Julie Walters has been playing pensioners since her early twenties. The amazing characterisation she achieves in this film is so perceptive and accurate and thoroughly believable. I was raised in Liverpool so know my Northern women well.
Julie Walters, if you're not familiar with her is a comedic character actress that generally shuns glamour parts and wants to depict and play, for the most part, eccentric women beyond her years (that border on the comedy grotesque) and she is exceptionally believable and hilariously effective at at.
It's called 'acting', Dear.

Exactly, it is called "acting". Walters is an amazing actress and there are so many films where this is common.

Again it is "acting".

I agree, but it's worth remembering that she was supposed to have been very young when she gave birth anyway. Not quite as young as seven of course, but probably no older than sixteen. So in this instance she's not really playing that much older.

She's so good in this film (as is Reiser). I wish it were better known.

It happens. There was a similar age similarity between Cary Grant and Jessie Landis in "North by Northwest".

That NEVER happens in movies. You're such a wonderful human being for bringing this horrible thing to our attention.
