Ending is revealed.
When Sheila and Jerry were wheeled away to do the transplant and that was it. I wanted to know if the transplant worked! What happened to the romance between Jerry and Maureen? Did they get married? If so, would Maureen be willing to move to the US? Can't imagine Jerry living in Liverpool.
I hated the ending. Too many loose ends. I feel like I wasted my time watching this movie because it didn't wrap up all the lives that we were drawn into.
Lynnsrealm: You're kidding, right? The point of the story is that, regardless of the outcome, all these lives had been connected in the most amazing, meaningful, positive ways -- While we, the audience, will go on hoping for the best for Reiser's character, we are shown the tenuous nature of our fragile lives.
Yet, we see through this complex story how important and precious we really can and should be to one another -- No matter the result. Here the "means justifies the end" and, because we're all adults, we can forego the "Hollywood Ending". Like life, it will be what it will be -- but the journey was beautiful in the end . . .
Tullyboy -- I entirely agree with you. In fact, I find that sequels often fall far short of the original film. I like the idea of letting my mind take the ending and imagine what could be. This movie completely surprised and delighted me, so glad to finally have it on DVD to watch again.
