What's Roger doing in school?

Jesus, he's right there in the cafeteria.

Sitting there talking with kids.

And then he tells that chick that his nephew has something to tell him.

It's amazing he didn't get food thrown at him, or arrested.

Yeah, that was a weird scene. Felt kind of, out of place? But the last frame was classic.

reply

It was definitely out of place, since it was tacked on later after the original version tested poorly with audiences.

Pure movie magic. 40 year old guy, without a child registered at the school, can stroll in, chat with a 14 year old girl and stroll out, no problems.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Maybe both Roger and his sister drove Nick to school, and Roger just entered for a chat. Don't forget Roger is the guy who sneaked his 16 year old nephew in a club, then a whorehouse, both in NY, so why would he have a problem with going into a high-school in a small town? He doesn't care and he probably smooth talked his way out of it.

Besides, it's the same high-school he went at. That is home town, so maybe people recognized him and they just let him in?

I mean, there are movies out there with flying people and talking animals and this small detail in this independent flick is what you guys are debating? Geez.

I know I can walk right in the front door of my old high school and head straight to the cafeteria and talk to any kid there. Not all high schools have guards posted at the doors. In fact, I'd venture to guess that 90 percent of schools outside of major cities have little or no security.

Nobody in any of the schools near me is going to say anything to a professionally dressed person in the 30s and 40s walking around the halls. They could be parent, a teacher, a substitute teacher, or just an invited guest.

I am sure he thought up some reply if he was challenged about him being in the school. Did he attend lessons lol

reply

The school probably sees him as a big success and he's probably there speaking as part of a Career Day. They just didn't waste our time with such a predictable scene, though it could have been funny, given his cynicism.

reply

At my school if you were related to a student you would have no problem coming in and talking to them wherever they were.

Because it happened back in the time when we weren't leaving in a fascism where everything is controlled, monitored and every entrances carded.

I did not find the scene odd. First of all that was likely the same High School Roger attended. Most High Schools allow alumni to come back and visit. The High School I attended had alumni come back to visit all the time. Roger probably came to visit his old High School and stuck around to have lunch with Nick. As for telling Angela that Nick has something to tell her that will blow his mind, why would that get him arrested? He is trying to help his nephew get the girl of his dream, nothing illegal about that.
