I didn't buy Nivola as a rock star at all. Bale can play anything. Nivola just seemed lost. I think he should have taken the likeable husband role, maybe stretched his idea of himself a little.
A leather jacket on a shlub doesn't make a rock star. It just makes a shlub in a leather jacket.
I thought you were going to say because of the accents (that I noted in another post). Nivola is a Yank playing a Brit, and Bale vice versa, so it does seem logical for them to just switch and not have to work so hard on their accents (though that would still leave two other principals using fake accents: Beckinsale and McElhone).

No most definitely not! Nivola was absolutely great as always, but still it would mean more screentime for him, which is good. But this role suited him very well.

shareDisagree. This is one of my favorite movies and probably the first movie I saw with Nivola (I remember looking him up!). Handsome, funny and if he's singing talented and sexy. And I really liked Christian Bale as Frances' son, different type of role for him.
