Am I The Only One?

Okay, I checked out this movie on here, just to see about other people's opinions on it. So after seeing how the movie was being praised, I went and rented it. I couldn't believe so many people actually enjoyed this movie!?! No offense, but was most of the people who reviewed this movie English? I think English have very dry sense of humor. I just didn't enjoy this movie at all! I do admit it had a few good scenes, like when Jimmy smashed the dog and such but, just terrible.......

Sorry I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

I agree with you. For a movie promoted with something like "years in the making, x million dollar budget" I'd at least except a much better storyline.

The movie lacked direction, I had no affinity with any characters etc.The artwork was pretty nice but if if there's no interesting story to tell all that remains is a pretty picture to look at. And I didn't think it was generally funny too.

I'd give it 5/10 (for artwork mostly)

Interestingly, I think children aged 8-16 would have liked it more but since it will be R rated or PG-17 (15 years older in Europe) the film is missing it's target audience

reply

4/10 - liked the animation, Jimmy, and the moose, that's about it.

I also didn't think it was very funny.

All the human characters were awful and I was hoping they'd all suffer painful deaths by the end. It's not because they were seedy characters but because they took up 80% of the screentime and were all SO DAMN ANNOYING.

And while I liked the animation, the characters' body movements were really slow. This made me feel like the film was twice as long, because I felt like I was watching it in slow-motion.

reply

Yeah. Just finished watching it, and now I have a raging headache... and I never get headaches.

4/10

Never heard of this movie so I had zero expectations when my friends rented it tonight. At first, it seemed ok, but I just didnt enjoy it. Some artwork, and yes, it had its moments, but no. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone, at all. 2/10.

If you want to see a movie in this style, see the danish "Terkel i knibe" instead. Much better, funnier , although not as "raw" as this one.

reply

You guys must be used to the hollywood movie style where every movie has at least one character that you symatize with and there is always a happy ending. This style was adopted after WW2 to bust people's morale and since it became the norm. Every movie that shows disease, human scum and sad ending receives bad reviews.

I think this movie shows the dark parts of humans where greed, money, pride and ego lead to a single character....the elephant. It's true, movies are for entertainment and are supposed to make you feel good.....at least we were raised with that notion. But movies are also used to send a message no matter how painful the message is. This movie shows that no matter how well intentioned humans are they still come second to any animal on this planet. No heros and no happy ending......just a bit of reality.

But you didn't address the fact that this is still an incredibly boring movie. I can't understand the high ratings here at all. I laughed perhaps no more than once, and the movie really dragged on after the one hour mark. Not even the nice graphics could save this film. 2/10

reply

I can understand this movie failed you guys. I utterly loved it, but I'm norwegian. I never expected something like this to be released outside of norway, or at least scandinavia. The whole thing is like a gigantic inside joke, and I'd be surprised if you found anything funny here at all unless you've lived in norway. There are so many plotlines and jokes based on different norwegian stereotypes..
I have not seen it with the english dub though... I don't know what they did with it there. I can NOT believe they would directly translate the jokes and the story, just because not a single damn british person would understand it.

reply

I'm also a norwegian, but have seen the movie with english dub, and I understand what people is complaining about. It's not as bad as 2/10, but not much better than 5/10! 1 Scene that does not work is the "ethnically challenged" -scene. Everyone is speaking the same language. The norwegian dub is excellent!

I'm Swedish but I also love this movie. It's a very Scandinavian movie. Like the fact that the guys smokes hasch in a pipe. It's a the old school Swedish way to smoke cannabis and apparently also in Norway.

Would You like to know more?

reply

You're not the only one. This movie is just so sad ... in every way.

reply

yes it really is ... a sad, sad animation ...

... and I don't know why is described as a comedy 'cause there is nothing funny about it at all.

reply

This movie isn't supposed to be funny. Audiences would benefit of knowing the story of filmmaker Christopher Nielsen's brother Joachim to be able to understand the aspect of this film. Joachim "Jokke" Nielsen was a poet and the frontman and songwriter in the norwegian rock act "Jokke & Valentinerne" (In English "Jokke and the Valentines". Later "Jokke & Tourettes"). Jokke died of an overdose of heroin on October 17. 2000.

I have to say i agree with the general consensus of this thread. I just found the whole film a drag, and actually (tho gd) the animation was prolly what brought it down for me... its so depressing. Shame really it had an awesome cast, guess i was just expecting summin else

This is a Norwegian film.

Groundhog Day, Ghostbustin' *beep* Bill Murray!

I LOVED it. I dont know about the Norwegian dub, but the English dub is brilliant. It takes the piss out of English stereotypes flawlessly in Odd, Gaz and Flea. And 'Twats' (the animal group) were great. IF you see the English dub, I think you have to be very familiar with English culture to find it funny. And yes, I know, it's a Norwegian film, but you know what I mean. Top film. And even better when watched whilst (**,)

I'm Norwegian and I agree, didn't like it at all. I saw it in Norwegian by the way and if the English version is even worse, then I feel very sorry for you!

Norwegian movie mate, cause you know... It's a Norwegian film, from this country called Norway. And the movie where excellent too, quite brilliant actually.

reply

At the the original poster, no you aren't the only one.

I too thought this was terrible and a complete waste of time! I wouldnt recommend it to anyone, sorry.

reply

Nope your not alone, I hated it!! I was so bored, the characters annoyed the hell out of me, the storyline was just pointless.. the only good feature was the animation but even that couldnt redeem the film for me.

reply

I hated it too. I could only stick 35 mins of it. It was turgid rubbish. I saw the Norwegian version and I can only think that its getting voted up by Norwegians being patriotic.

The trailer had more "jokes" than the first 35 mins and it was 30 seconds long. A total waste of time.

I love Norwegian films otherwise, I speak Norwegian so its not a language issue. See Kill Buljo instead, its about 10,000,000 times better.

reply

I love both versions myself. It's the hyprocritical and steroetype-based humour and the hilarious characters that sells it for me. I guess people are expecting obvious punchline-based jokes, but they won't find any this film.

my only complaints are it's short and I wish Hudmespecs, my favourite Nielsen character, had more screen time.
