Not impressed at all. This movie is for the specially interested crowd, and not for the average movie-lover at all. The language of the main characters in the movie is childishly profound and boring, the dialogue is non-existant, and what the h... is the movie about?! The ending is horrific! And I'm not gonna start about the poor animations. Example: The decapitation of Mattis, horrible. All in all a 4 out of 10, but seeing they used 8 years to finish it: 1 out of 10!

That much should have been blatantly obvious from the start, so why did you see it to begin with, as it clearly isn't for you?

So I'm not allowed to see a movie because of it's genre?
The whole idea of the movie seemed okay, and I judged it to be a movie worth the ticket. Especially when the "impartial" critics in the norwegian press in addition showered it with top scores. Seeing they used 8 years and a good $15 mill to finish it, I would never have guessed it to have such a thin story, nor be full of boring and at times disgusting humour. I havent heard ONE person say this is a good movie, I'm tempted to call it ridiculous, knowing what amount of resources went into making it. The animations are ok, I guess. But the whole plot and the interactions between the figures are thin as a leaf. Some funny episodes does haul the movie up from the gutter, but the total impression is shallow and boring.
And I'm not speaking for myself. I'm curious to know what people are giving this movie a 10, as they are putting it beside movies like the Godfather, the Shawshank Redemption, Schindler's List and so on..
You are missing something vital. A film must be seen and evaluated within the right context. You do not judge films equally; therefore it is not Godfather. If you thought it was, you have misunderstood. It was always meant to be a dirty, non-sophisticated film.
I agree that there are week points. I agree that the ending is meagre. I agree that there are times when the animation is not top. But I did in fact, more or less, laugh the whole way through.
I have seen many films that in their own context have been wonderful. They have been shallow, simple and fun - and never attempted being anything else.
Go to the cinema and see Free Jimmy for what it is.
The problem is that this movie is understandable only for norwegian, you have to know quite much about Norway and mostly of thing you can't find in books, I haven't seen english version but to translate (if possible) you have to work hard. "Trøndersk" and "Nordlandsk" are funny dialects here in Norway and people make jokes on this, but how to translate it? Beleive me this movie are excelent, but only for norwegian and them who do understand not only norwegian but a bit of norwegian culture and way of living...

The movie ends up with too many characters with too little screentime. You might be able to ignore this if you have read all of Nielsens comics, but as a movie its not good enough.

shareCan I just mention guys, there is a seriously dark edge to this film.
The whole premise is to make you feel uncomfortable with the issues, the surroundings, what the people do and look like.
The film deals with how people's actions affect our surroundings; the burnt car at the beginning, the grotty city, everything you see that's waste is man made - apart form the elephant puke.
Each group had their own motives for needing jimmy and they sought after him, destroying anything that stopped them. Each group, each person contributed to his death and each told themselves that they needed jimmy, or got carried along with it.
Jimmy isn’t just a million dollar elephant!! He’s anything that has been wanted for personal gain, everything that has been exploited. He’s something that will always be chased, even after his death.
This film delves into the way we act, how we all try to win in one way or another, when all we do is loose and so does everything else around us.
Films like this don’t come around often, with some serious subtext and deep messages.
My personal view of this, if you haven’t guessed already, is that this film talks from the heart of the creators and has achieved something that will keep on growing. Watch it again, try to find the message that it hides, you may like it...
I think it is awesome, even the English version has me hooked.
I am searching for a translation with English subtitles.
As most of us are unlikely to learn Norwegian in our lives, someone must do a subtitle version for the service of the planet, translated by someone such as your self whom will get it as accurate as possible, even with extra cultural back story explanations perhaps.
Just throwing this idea out there.

Selve produksjonen var på seks år. Budsjettet er kanskje stort til å være her hjemme, men sammenlignet med hva man vanligvis investerer i slike filmer er det ikke all verden. For min egen del synes jeg ikke det var noen grunn til å klage på animasjonen som jeg faktisk synes var bra. Du så vel posteret før du gikk inn på kinoen, eventuelt reklame og bilder i avisen? Den lange tiden skyldes i stor grad utallige forsinkelser grunnet konkurser og annet herk, ikke fordi man brukte tiden til å perfeksjonere og finpusse detaljer.
Og den har vel aldri gitt inntrykk av å være en tolkning av Shakespeare e.l. Siden det er skrevet såpass om filmen trodde jeg at de fleste som så den visste hva de gikk til.
Hvordan tror du forresten samtaler mellom tunge narkomane og kriminelle vanligvis forløper da? Hvordan skulle så dialogen ha vært før du ble fornøyd?
Ikke at filmen var helt perfekt, men så lenge helhetsinntrykket er mer positivt enn negativt, hvorfor være misfornøyd?

The lip-sync is off in norwegian because the movie was lip-sync'ed to the american voices, so no surprise there..

And if you push your expectations sky-high because norwegian press hypes a movie made by the brother of the late norwegian rock legend Joachim Nielsen then the joke is really on you :-D

shareJeg syns denne filmen var ganske bra. Var overrasket over hvor kult språket egentlig var, ye bra dialekt og "kule" dialoger mellom narkisene.
Denne filmen hadde definitvt sine morsomme tider, f.eks da han ene prøvde å komme ut av bilen, men en stein blokkerte for døra xD
