It is interesting how worked up people get over average films.
It's really a film for kids. The mythos surrounding the whales is the best part.
I don't think that it merited an award for anything.

It's really a film for adults, but I guess someone with the mind of a child might find it average.

It's not a good movie to watch wasted on beer or hard drugs. There's no explosions or kicks to the face.
Maybe it just didn't connect with everyone? I thought it was good, but I didn't think it was great. Well directed and acted, but I didn't think the film was nearly as emotional as some have made it out to be. So, obviously I didn't like it nearly as much as many others. I'll probably give it another watch in the future to see if my opinion changes.
