Why is this utter trash of a remake still rated so highly on imdb ?
This was a joke in comparison to "Ringu", poor buildup, unscary and they even didnt take the iconic "creepy eye" from the original movie into it or managed to get something of that height of scary. Instead they kind of replaced it with a horse eye if i recall which was so poorly executed.
Im wondering if the popularity or the high rating of this movie is due to it being the first exposure of the japanese horror wave that started with Ringu/Dark Water/Ju-on so it kind of got a "pass" just like when anime was truly being exposed to the western market with "Cowboy Bebop" which wasnt a bad anime but if youve watched some of the offerings in the anime department it would most likely be labelled as "just good" or "decent" among anime fans but in the western market people didnt know better or had alternatives so it got known as one of the absolute best.
This movie felt exactly like the first Silent Hill movie, had a decent cinematography and visual style but lacked the substance of capture the feel of horror the source material is known for from the silent hil lgames and in this movies case the first "Ringu" movie, which is still a classic and subtle/tense japanese horror movie that never really managed to get better executed aside from the first Ju-On movie.
