Question About A Quote

Hey all,

I just had a question about a quote from this movie. The quote is:

"That was the day I stopped believing in the wild ardor of things. Perhaps in love, as well. That kind of love. The love in books and films. The love that tells us to abandon our lives and plans, all for one brief touch of Venus. So often we fail at that kind of love. The world just seems too fragile a place for it. And of every other kind, life remains full. Perhaps it's just we who are too fragile."-Cathy

Its a gorgeous quote but I am having trouble remembering where in the movie it took place and what the context was. Could you help refresh my memory?

Btw, this was a truly beautiful movie. I would highly recommend it.

reply

I agree about the quote but I don't think it's in the movie, it might have been in the trailer though.

reply

True. It's not in the film.

yeah so sad!!! it shuld be in the movie :-(

I just watched it, and the extras on the DVD. In one of the commentaries, writer/director Todd Haynes mentioned that at the very end, the script originally called for a voice-over by Cathy's character, but he decided not to include it. My guess is it was that speech.
