"I've fallen in love...I never knew what that was like." ...ouch

Poor Cathy. What a slap in the heart. That means he never fell in love with her. I'd give up on him, too. Just go away, you ruined my life.

Such a pity people had to live in closets, hurting their 'beards'. If two people knew one was gay, and they got married with the full understanding it was just for convenience, it could work out. But, deceiving someone, is just cruel. He doesn't get to be honest with himself, either.

I was really waiting for the,"Frank, when do I get to be happy?" Just a little consideration for her feelings would have been welcome.

The 50's were like that. If you didn't fit into a narrow demographic you didn't count and were considered 'unacceptable'. There were boundaries against anything that wasn't status quo. No homosexuality. No interracial relationships. Women stayed at home and raised kids. If you stepped out of those narrow parameters you were ostracized and punished. I also think there was an underlying theme about the way women are treated to this day. In the film Cathy's husband Frank moves on with the love of his life. Raymond leaves town with his daughter. Kathy is left standing there and its kind of a metaphor for what happens to us women sometimes. The men move on to pursue their happiness and we women are just left standing there to explain to our children and even to ourselves what happened. We move on too.......eventually.
