Is this a 'remake' of...

Hint 1: Both movies have the same "theme".

Strangely, I was thinking about that film while I was watching the movie. The similarities are striking: Dennis Haybert's character has a daughter. His character has a taboo relationship with his white female co-star's character. The husband character learns of this, strikes his wife, and is implied they separated at the end.
However, I see the movie has a 1950s interracial version of Brief Encounter.
This screenplay/film is a rewrite/redo of "All That Heaven Allows" (1955), starring Rock Hudson as the gardener. Also set in the mid-1950s, his character has a relationship with an upper middle-class widow which is considered
"scandalous' because of
their class difference.
That explains the feeling of Deja Vu I got while watching this movie. It felt like a remake and they did a great job of giving it a current 1950s movie feeling.
