Was Devinn and Ted really a couple?

I just saw the first season of this show and I have to ask whether it was true or was it just an act? Sometimes it feels like an act but sometimes it isn't. Were they really an ex-lovers who came to the show and actually hooked up b4 they split? I would like to know. I liked the chemistry between them both. It was pretty good.
