I dunno

I've got a malaise where if I don't complete a game in less than a month, I get bored with it and never play it again.

in the last 2 years I have loved initially then never quite completed

Halo (completed on normal but not any other levels)
Halo2
Jedi outcast
Eternal darkness
Zelda, majora's mask (I got right to the last bit as well before losing interest)
Spyhunter
Knights of the old republic
Baldur's gate (is that the title?)

They're the ones I can remember. I think I only have a month attention span. does anyone else suffer from ennui the same as me?

I am the opposite, I play a game solidly till I get 100% complete. Then chances are will never play it again at least for a long time! KNights of old republic, I am still finding new stuff!

Tell me - have you ever danced with the Devil by the Pale Moon Light?

reply

Same here... I rarely play a game from start to end, and mostly stop playing after 3-4 weeks.
Battlefield 2 have I been playing for almost six months straight now though.
Amazing game...

-You... you killed him?
-No, I shot him. The bullets and the fall killed him.

I never finished Spyhunter because the weapons and skills kept changing - so you never built up any proficiency at driving skills.

Halo and Halo 2 MUST be played through - just reminder, spring forward - fall back. You'll live longer and get further in the game.

Outcast is similar to the Halos but you need to write down clues and keep a mental map, oftentimes you're told to backtrack to an earlier location. Meanwhile as your Jedi powers become stronger and stronger the game becomes more fun. If you're frustrated, I'd recommend using the cheat for lightsaber - at least you'll have fun flinging it around.

KOTR - same here, never really got into it - my friends loved it though.

Baldur's gate - this game goes on and on and on - then ends. Kill the final Boss and 'game over' - no song and dance, no big cinematic - just 'game over.'

I've since managed to go back and complete Baldur's gate and eternal darkness (eternal darkness was pretty easy as soon as you get the curing insanity spell). Baldur's gate I've completed on the hardest setting (it wasn't worth it though, there was a real sense of '...oh, it that it?')

On Jedi outcast I got fairly far, I'd had the lightsaber for a while, but I really don't feel any compulsion to complete it.

My current project is completing Morrowind I bought years ago. I'm starting to lose interest in that now though. My character is too invincible, I never have any problems completing the tasks. I've even started messing around and seeing if I can smack big monsters around using my fists. I've started feeling sorry for the baddies, it feels like I'm beating up cripples.

Although Gears of War is the one I love the most. I can't play it for too long at a time though, I played it once all weekend (without going to sleep, stupid, I know) and then when I finally did get some sleep couldn't stop dreaming about it. I did a similar thing this last week as I've been off work, and had some messed up dreams last night. I suppose that's a sign of a good game that it gets inside your head.

Morrowind- finally completed couple of weeks ago. My character was so hard I could have beaten the final guy with my arms tied behind my back. Guess I spent too much time doing the sidequests, by the time I did the main quest it was far too easy.

Off to get Oblivion now...

Halo - completed

Halo2 - same as you. Got bored pretty quick with it.

Jedi outcast - completed quite quickly. If you're getting bored try using the cheats to up your force powers to full. Then start using Force Choke to pick troopers up and drop them down chasms etc. This never gets old. Also try getting a few mods etc. There are some good ones out there. I have one for JA (dunno if it works for JO yet) that enhances some of the graphics and makes things like the force lightening look a lot more spectacular. Personally I love Outcast. Its one of my favourite games. But its most fun when you've all the force powers. But the story line and characters are quite strong for a game too.

Spyhunter - got old fast!

Knights of the old republic - you really have to be patient with this one. There were times (especially on the opening levels) where I came close to giving up. But again the further you get into it the better it gets. And again you can get some great mods that add force powers, weapons etc.
