First Person/Third Person

I have the GameCube version. How do you switch from first person to third person with a gun? I know it's possible because if you have your lightsaber out and go to a security camera, and while looking at the video feed switch to a gun with the D-pad you can do it, but that's not very convenient because you need to have a security feed and if you use your lightsaber you lose it.
