the most UNDERRATED movie of the year

nothing more to say. 5.5 out of 10??? I saw the rating and wondered if i should go see this. Fortunately i went. Honestly, I (and the rest of the spectators) didn't stop laughing for the first 2/3 of the movie. The best comedy i've seen for a long time...

(Zoolander's got 6/10, C'MON!!!)

reply

wow.. I feel exactly the opposite, I thought it was an awful movie in general, although it included a very few funny scenes. If I´d seen this at home, I would have turned it off half way through... cant recommend any1 over the age of 16 to see this

reply

Im not sure ANYBODY should see this movie. It is quite possibly one of the worst buddy comedies ever made (owen wilson seems to do a lot of horrible buddy comedies, remeber shanghi noon?)

reply

I thought Shangai Noon was hilarious! Maybe Owen Wilson just isn't your cup of tea but he sure is mine:)

reply

If you didn't find this movie to be funny then you are a moron. Owen Wilson is funny and Eddie Murphy is hysterical! The plot is far-fetched but, you know what??? It's a freakin' movie and it's supposed to be far-fetched. I don't go to the theater to see historical documentaries. I want to be entertained and this movie was far more entertaining than I was expecting.

Something must have been in the air where you was watching this....
This is a movie that when you rent it, you get a discount.

reply

i found it funny, i spend five bucks for the theatre and i didn't have any major complaints. i thought it was a better movie than the ring, and somehow that piece of trash is getting rave reviews. eddie murphy seems to be on a downward spiral tho.

reply

Allow me to disagree, i bought this movie last night on DVD and found it hilarious. I recommend it, 8 out of 10.

reply

You bought it at night? Been drinking or something before?
Anyways,
You probably won't admit it's crap just because you bought it..

--= Did you see? I did!! =--

reply

if i thought it was crap, i would admit it, i bought the swarzennegger film end of days, and regret it greatly, i can sell the movie if i dont like it and still come out winning.

So your argument about liking it because i bought it is off, also, i DON'T drink, so that's another one you missed :)

reply

I love Arnold Schwarzenegger. I have like 10 of his films on DVD and most of them are terrible movies, but they don't have to be good movies to enjoy watching them. Likewise, I have several Eddie Murphy movies that are badly made (Showtime, The Distinguished Gentleman, Coming to America), but again they are fun to watch because he is a funny person. It's the same with Owen Wilson. He is so funny. I recommend The Royal Tennenbaums, Zoolander, Shanghai Knights, and of course The Cable Guy if you like his acting style. If you don't, then don't watch his movies. I think he is great though.

"You there, on the motorbike! Sell me one of your melons!!"

reply

This movie was underrated. This movie kicked butt!!!! I loved it. Heck, ill give it a
9!!!

reply

I spy was great. What the hell is rebelman7 on about?....Both Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights were hilarious along with Rush Hour 1 & 2 and I spy. What was bad about this film? Both Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy were excellent. I have no idea why this movie flopped.

reply

i also agree i rented this on dvd last night, i was chuckling from the start, and the sexual healing scene was a show stopper, quite marvellous. all in all take your brain out and enjoy. 8/10

reply

It was a lot better than I expected, and Eddie should be credited since hes been on a bad movie rampage lately. Owen Wilson is hilarious. Period. And Id stick it in Famke fast.

reply

I Spy is without doubt the worst film I have seen in years and the lamest excuse for comedy ever IMO. It is simply not funny... Murphy just walks around spouting his character's name in the third person and even the usually witty Owen Wilson can't lift it.
Listen to the film-makers' commentary on the R2 DVD it proves they are idiots who laugh at their own jokes. It is no suprise their film turned out so badly.

reply

Some might call it a difference of opinion, but I call it - if you dont find this movie funny then you're a stupid humourless uptight b*****d!

reply

two dumb characters, a dumb script and a clueless director do not equal a good comedy, in this case they don't even equal a passable one. Still looking at my description I can understand why it appeals to you Mombaza69.

reply

If you didn't like this then name some comedies you do like.

reply

Anyone that thinks this is a great movie obviously has low standards!!

reply

I Spy is in no way underrated, just a standard popcorn movie with standard comedy/action and a standard Eddie Murphy. Maybe that´s why I disliked him here, he´s trying to do his big mouth Beverly Hills Cop thing, but it was _so_ annoying, a nightmare version of Leo Getz (Lethal Weapon series). In "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0180052 ) he was way funnier than that, I´m really glad I found it, but don´t really know why they trashed it.

reply

oh man I agree
this movie cracked me up. it had some of the funniest lines!
it was great how the two agents talked to each other during the middle of the fight scenes haha.
the people who said this movie is for kids under 16.. man you need to lighten up! this movie was so funny :)

reply

Come ON guys! You can NOT judge this movie on the same criteria as meaningful cinema. This is formulaic buddy movie stuff, with the standard plot twists seen from a mile away, a good-spy-bad-spy motif, the cool CGI gadgets, the easy, short laughs and some bare flesh (Im thinking about Janssen's not the boxers') and explosions for the teaser trailers. The plot is weak, the material has been done to death, and the acting uninnovative.
The main argument apparent to the "This movie sux" idea say they found the movie hilarious or they laughed all the way through it. I agree. It is perfect for check-your-brain-at-the-coat-room laughs and I did laugh at it. I just dont consider this to be any more memorable then most films. I rented this along with Chan's Accidental spy, and i much prefer the latter

I consider myself objective when it comes to giving opinions on any form of entertainment and I find it hard to understand why anyone would not enjoy, and laugh out load at least a few times, whilst watching this movie. All I can think is that some of the better jokes have been missed, after all Eddie Murphy is not that easy to understand when he's fast-talking, at least that's what I find. I recommend you watch this movie with an open mind and low expectations, it's a run-o-the-mill buddy movie but I think it delivers an entertaining experience.

reply

i agree with cpfh, i did actually watch the entire movie, (instead of turning it off after the first 30 minutes, like i considered), but i was glad that i did. it did pick up a little once you just accept that that is the style of the movie and it's not going to be as good as shanghai. the problem with me was that i love owen's style, and i think he brings his own character into every movie character he plays, and i just didn't see that happening here. instead of being the ditzy, hilarious self centered hottie who isn't the brightest and can't fight, he's trying to play a fbi agent who for the most part knows what he's doing and can't get a girl cuz he's shy. while i think it's fine for actors to switch personas or characters, this one just doesn't mesh as well as what we're used to. instead they gave that role to murphy. the other major problem was the weak dialogue. a movie has to have good dialogue to be successful. however, i did enjoy it, and if they did make a sequel i would watch it.

reply

I thought it was pretty bad. It was on HBO and I had to restrain myself from changing the channel. Gary Cole was funny as Carlos, and Owen Wilson was amusing. Eddie Murphy was completely unfunny, and so unlikable I kept hoping Owen would stab him in the face with some secret spy dagger.

I finally gave up and turned it off.

reply

I couldnt agree with you more. It is funny, Wilson and Murphy are a great pair and the action is good. The old cliseis are worked on a new way

reply

I thought this movie was pretty funny. The scene where Owen sign "Sexual Healing" had me rolling on the floor. And Famke Janssen is pretty damn hot to boot!

reply

I completely agree. The movie is great, I laughed almost the entire time. I think people just jump to conclusions about movies like this.

reply

I went into my local video shop yesterday, and everywhere I looked I saw Eddie Murphy, he's sold out. I admit, he has a lot of talent, it's just a pity he wastes it on crap films or annoying characters. I-Spy is a great film, but that's only because Owen Wilson and Famke Janssen saved it. Eddie Murphy's character was really annoying, and that's what made that film bad. Apart from that I thought this film was really good.

Top 15 movie i have ever seen. I only like comedies, so its actually a top 15 comedy which is the same thing to me.

Zoolander, Cheats, Scary Movie 2, Kingpin, Super Troopers, Office Space, Made, Old School, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Freddy Got Fingered are some others in the top 15.

I dont base a movie based on the plot, or even scenes. I base a movie on how many times it makes me laugh which is basically how many funny lines are in the movie. There were easily 50+ times i laughed. Even at simple things like "My nuts was kicked!" and "Whats BNS stand for anyway? A bitch that needs some slappin?".

There were a lot of funny scenes in the movie though. When they are in the sewer. When they are on the roof top where the 'leafy bug' is. In the airplane. And where he is singing a song to Owen and he is saying the words to the girl.

reply

"Freddy got fingered" is in your Top15? OMG, you must be such a masochist. FGF is amongst those very few movies I ever rated a 1, and that´s just because there is no 0. Mhh ... I just reviewed my Voting History, I actually gave him a 2. Don´t really know why cause watching this ... movie? ... made me puke. The only movie worse than FGF is Redneck Zombies (http://imdb.com/title/tt0093833/), and i rarely give a movie a bad rating, most of the time I still can find some entertainment (MST3K style) ...

reply

Your comment makes me wonder what sort of spectators you were with in the theatre. This was so boring. Eddie Murphy's lowest point ever, and Owen Wilson's too. Everything was so irritating and stupid, I did not watch it till the end. There should be a rating for this sort of movies, preventing normal people from wasting there time.
