Why did this flop so badly?

O.K it isn't as good as say Under Seige or Hard to Kill but it wasnt that bad. I would expect it to have made more than $20 million worldwide. It was just a fun action film that shouldnt be taken too seriously. Does anyone know why it didnt do so well then? was it bad timing, bad advertising etc?

reply

More like bad plot, bad acting, and just plain bad movie.

Are you in the uk to?,it was just on here, and yeah its ok.BUT it just cant compare to his old films, out for justice and the other early ones when he actually moved about and had great fights, the ones agaisnt the jamacian posse gangs and the mafia, and the one in the bar when he took the whole bar on,they were wicked, this one hes to fat now to move about, and the other actors seemed real poor, also the baddie female and the tough bitch cop, both seemed pathetic, really ott,and just not believable to me any way.

reply

true. it doesnt compare to his earlier films. i hope channel 5 decide to show some earlier ones. now hes fat he cant move and its a disappointment coz he used to beat people silly with one hand behind his back. lol

living in the UK, I really want Channel 5 to air Hard to Kill, that never got released on DVD and I threw my VHS player away ages ago. I saw it on DVD in Japan way back and I want to see it again.

reply

Well Above the Law is on tonight on Channel 5 at 10 and thats better than Hard To Kill in my opinion. Also, Ticker is on Itv 4 on Thursday at 10:30. His films are on TV a lot more than you would persume. You just have to drop on really.

reply

yeah Above the Law is definitely one of my favourites, I have all of his films up to The Patriot on DVD apart from Hard to Kill, it would be cool if this made it to channel 5 some time.

Plot was fine. It's not the greatest plot in the world and pieces were given to you a little at a time in the first half, from there, it's just an action flick and the action was anything but laughable - well other than the two prisoners jumping off the second level while firing their weapons. That's a little out there, but how many action flicks don't have crazy stunts in them.

My only problems with the movie:

1. Sash saying he's the real thing in the beginning while Nick had him on the poly. That was a little dry - made it too easy.
2. Special Agent Williams didn't have her gun drawn before she talked Nick in testifying for a reduced sentence. She's lucky Nick's boys didn't shoot her as she drew her weapons. Nick of course was being too busy acting all "Gangsta", if Williams would have followed procedure she should drew before she confronted Nick.
3. Sash happened to be escorted to the same prison as Nick. It's a common practice I know by Feds to get their undercovers close to their targets and gain their trust. What are the odds? Nick could saw right through this if he was a more intelligent man than an average street thug and a pawn working for some Brit.
4. Six mowed down the abusive guard escorting Sash back to his cell from Lester's chamber. Sash only took one in the shoulder, but otherwise they left him alone when he pretended he was dead. Guess maybe Six figured Sash is a nobody, so if he's down that's enough for her. He wasn't a threat and mission critical.
