James Cameron is sad

Why can't he let Titanic go, huh? First of all, it did not deserve best picture. As Good as it Gets or L.A. Confidential deserved it, but Titanic won and there's nothing I can do about it. Second of all, get over it! So you won best picture. It's not like it's never been done before. You don't see Peter Jackson doing "The Phantoms of the Ring", or Ron Howard doing "The Depths of a Beautiful Mind", or Milos Forman doing "The Halls of the Cukoo's Nest" or "Amadeus's Soul". James, in case you are unaware, your sh*t does in fact reek of a$s.

LOL! I loved the last line of what you said. Cameron is, in fact, a jerk to work with. BUT, his films have an audience. Being a Titanic buff, I quite enjoyed both Titanic, and this film. The film Titanic...I couldn't care less about the love story aspect of it. I loved it for the attention to detail with the recreation of the ship...and everything that happened once she began to sink. The film actually put the audience in the shoes of those who died in the tragedy...quite incredible. But the love story...bah. Who cares.

As for this movie...it's great because it gives the average person (especially people who are fascinated by the Titanic story) a look inside of her. Also, since the ship is being eaten away quite quickly now, it is a great movie for historians and scientists. At some point in the future, this film, and other films of people who have gone down to the wreckage, will be all that we have left of the ship. Thank goodness that people have taken the time to do these films. Thank goodness for James Cameron's passion for this subject. He may be an ass...but he most certainly has given a lot to preserve the memory of the tragedy, and the people who were lost.

Well, I'll quit b*tching if and only if his intentions are as benevolent as you say they are, obie.

I agree. That completely pisses me off when someone says get over it, it sank. It really isn't about that. People who are very amazed with it, have a good reason to. This was a tragedy that changed the history of safety for passengers traveling. Where it became mandatory to have enough equipment for everyone on board, and that just because someone had more money than you did not mean they deserved to live more. I to, am a fan of the detail and just really amazed at the accurate depiction of how this ship went down. I am talking about the elaborate sets that were built, and I really did buy this happening a long time ago, with thee costumes, everything. It was truly a masterpiece in that regard.

I would suppose you'd say to Dr. Robert Ballard to get over his love of the sea and stop diving on the sunken ships of the world. Or perhaps Jacques Cousteau was wasting his time on his passion. Heck, why not tell mountainclimbers not to do what they love to do.

I am back after seven months, and my sentiments have not changed. James Cameron is a flying sack of crap. I know that this post is not written as eloquently as the original, but I am feeling more passionate and less diplomatic. What do you get when you mix True Lies and Titanic? I shudder to think...
By the way, some would say that Titanic gave DiCaprio and Winslet their starts, because I admit that Winslet is great (Iris, Eternal Sunshine), and DiCaprio is definitely gaining my respect (Gangs, Aviator) (However, I am not sure why Scorsese has decided to trade De Niro for DiCaprio, but whatever). This is true. Titanic did get them their start. However, this was not due to their "outstanding" performances by no means. This was because of publicity and Celebrity Deathmatch. For me, however, DiCaprio got his start with "The Beach." That is what gave me second thoughts about the poor schmuck. Winslet on the other hand has vacilated in performances. I absolutely loved her in Branaugh's Hamlet (the best version since Olivier), then she obviously dropped in Titanic, she kept it up from Quills to Iris, then lost it in The Life of David Gale. She will, in my opinion, stay constant from Eternal Sunshine on.
Wow! I did not mean to digress so much.
James Cameron is sad. I want to hurt him.

Ok so you are not a fan of James Cameron, but many people will never get the advantage to visit Titanic and those that are interested in it dont have to like Cameron but are grateful that he shared his film so we could see at least a portion of what he saw. This film no matter what his motive for making it shows the state of the ship as it is now and since Titanic is fading away quickly this film is a way of preserving it in time.
You are a very bitter person, your opinion of characters, actors, and directors have nothing to do with the fact that this film can be used to preserve time. And I for one am grateful that he decided to share his film with viewers no matter what his intentions so that I could see what I would not be able to see if it were not for film makers.
If you do not like Cameron then dont view his films. Simply stated you seem to be miserable and bitter. As for Dicaprio getting his start in The Beach, well that is your opinion, many critics noticed him farther back in Gilbert Grape and with This Boys Life - with Deniro, so you can see how your opinion differs and the same goes with Ghosts, Titanic, or any other Cameron film.
Titanic is not supposed to be factual. Cameron wrote a love story and used the Titanic as his setting for it, GOTA is a documentary so really there is no comparison to the 2 films or any other film the has done.
Cameron may be an @ss but to watch his movies are not the same as sitting down and having a conversation with him. So what if he has a new interest and wants to explore it, he isnt gone go away just cause you dont share the same passion he has. You obviously have not had a passion for anything the way that he does for Titanic, and maybe he just wanted to share more of the Titanic on the realistic side that you obviously cannot understand. Cameron new that their has been an interest in Titanic and that his movie did not show the true side of Titanic and he found a way for his story to get out to different groups of Titanic fanatics or people who saw the movie and gained an interest in Titanic, it gave people a more real side to the tragic event. Just cause it is not talked about everyday does not mean that people do not have an interest in the subject.
It is okay to state your opinion but you are really bitter in it. Are you always so opnionated and unaccepting to others interest?

Agreed. The images picked up by Jake & Elwood, showing how well-preserved items like dishes, water glasses, a fork, the windows in the dining room, still are after all these years, gave a twilight zone eerieness to this historical tragedy.

hiya, hope u see this reply????? LOL!
Im from the East......close to the City Airport. glad you had a nice time while here then. Yeah the Samson and Goliath babies were almost pulled down, but saved on time! H&W yep, there and the Short Brothers place which was aviation. Sounds sad and maybe silly but Im a person who loves the historical side of our city........a lot of old buidings are slowly being knocked away but some are preserved. was a bit sad to see the big old H&W sheds being knocked away, thank gosh the massive old gates are still there along that wall but I have a bad feeling in time all that will be totally absent........

It's an amazing story, a teacher, and should not be forgotten.

Yes I do believe it's time for Cameron to move onto other projects. He hasn't directed a fictional feature film since Titanic. Even the discoverer of the wreck, Bob Ballard has moved on. He recently visited the Titanic's sister ship Britannic and said that it was the greatest experience he had ever had diving to a wreck. Titanic has been explored enough. With so many wrecks, some with an even greater loss of life down there (like the Willhelm Gustoffe, a loss of nearly 9000 lives!), it's time to move on Jimmy!

reply

Well, people move on when they're ready. Telling people to move on is unrealistic.

Um, Lord of the Rings was not a true story. Terrible example, don't you think? Titanic was a real tragedy, and the ship nor its victims should ever be forgotten. You can't tell someone who has an interest in something to just stop. If you don't like James Cameron, simply don't watch his films. It's not that difficult.

As Good as it Gets was nowhere near as good as Titanic. I've tried several times, but I can't even make it all the way through As Good as it Gets. I have seen LA Confidential once, and I didn't care for it. Titanic was a true masterpiece.

reply

I think comparing As Good As It Gets to Titanic is somewhat nonsensical though. Judge the movies on their own merit. They really dont have enough in common to be comparable.

MyKindOfGum, I 100% agree with u. Titanic shouldnt be forgotton, and neither should the survivors or victims. I mean there lifes were wasted when Titanic sunk, and with the the people interested remembering it, then their deaths arent totally wasted, at least they've become well known and felt for from the true fans.

reply

It also teaches us to how fragile life is, and perhaps we will treat our loved one's better out of this tragedy. To forget is to invite history to repeat itself. To remember is to grow.

I personally think Cameron is awesome and a film genius. Sorry you feel that badly. I feel really sorry for you.

reply

I agree BrdfilmX, I think Cameron is a great director, loved Titanic.

I've noticed lately that a lot of people like to go against the flow and hate a movie just because it's something no one else is doing and it starts to get popular and before you know you have a cult of haters of a good movie.

James Cameron isn't, in any way, sad. He is very brave to have gone down to the Titanic site so many times (no way would I spend hours on end in that little teeny submarine so far under water, my hat's off to everyone who went down there) and he treats Titanic with respect. He really appreciates what happened and he doesn't try to ruin it by tearing the ship apart to "share it with the world." He is a good director and seems like a good guy.

Much love and BIG KISSES,
Steph
