Surprised by the Hate

Is this a great movie? No. But I'm still surprised by a lot of the comments here. I'm especially surprised by the people complaining its too long and slow paced. I find that it moves at a good pace, and segues from one exciting scene to the other quite well. The acting is reasonable, especially the girl playing Charlie, and the plot holds together reasonably well ... about as well as you can hope for this sort of movie.

The other issue is the changes made to the backstory. I understand some people would not be able to let this go. Still, the changes were needed. The original book/movie left nowhere to go for a sequel. Here, they tried to make a sequel anyway. It necessitated certain changes. This is not a strict sequel, so much as a reimagining.

I, for one, think it works reasonably well. 6/10.

The biggest problem I had with this was how much of wimp Charlie was. She repeatedly refused to use her power even when she could have just used it as a defense. Then, even though she hates Rainbird, she lets him shoot her friend in the head before she decides to stop him.

If I'd been in her place, he would have been turned into a charcoal briquette the first time he showed his ugly face.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.
