American Voice-Over editions...

I first taped this series of cartoons in the 1990's. The tape wore out and so I bought the Tom Kitten - Puddle Duck story on VHS at Walmart. However, when I played it at home all the children's voices were different and had American accents. Does anyone know anything about this? The store won't take the tape back and I'm very hesitant about wasting any more money on tapes that aren't the originals. Help!!!

Hm. I don't know. I borrowed both The Tale of Two Bad Mice and Johnny Town Mouse and The Tale of Mr. Tod from the library. They seemed to have the original voices in those.

All the ones I got from WalMart have the British voices. I do not recall they (VHS) said anything different on them when I got them. I have the whole set and wish hey would make more. I loved all of them.

A total of 9 episodes (combining the stories of more than a single original Beatrix Potter book in each) were produced. When these were to be shown on American television there was a concern that the animals' voices in their original English accents might not be easily understood, so some of these voices - but not all, and not that of the actress playing Potter - were redubbed. Some TV broadcasts may have used the original soundtracks. The series was issued on VHS in the US by Goodtimes Video, with the redubbed voices. This is what the OP will have found at Walmart in 2006.

Goodtimes later issued these nine episodes on four DVDs, as Volume 1 discs 1 & 2, and Volume 2 discs 1 & 2, of "The Complete Beatrix Potter Collection", and subsequently reissued them again, combining the contents onto a single disc Volume 1 and a single disc Volume 2, sold as a single 2-DVD boxed set. Both of these Goodtimes sets are now (June 2009) out of print, but still widely available from various sources. The Goodtimes VHS series had the redubbed animal voices, and I assume but am not certain that their DVDs do as well.

In the meantime a more recent release consisting of three DVDs has been issued in the US by BBC Video, with three episodes on each disc. These are packaged and sold (or rented) individually rather than as a set. This BBC release retains all the original English-accented voices, and also includes optional subtitles.

Where's the phone number or email address to Goodtimes so that I can ask a replacement DVD for a dubbing error? Please respond.

Then can I ask BBC for a replacement DVD for a dubbing error? Do they do that?
