I found this movie very disappointing, especially because many scenes had the potential to be very funny, but unfortunately they were not. All jokes that were intended to make the audience laugh were overacted so badly that it was almost cringe-worthy.
But obviously, many people must like this kind of brainless, contrived humor. This movie was a big enough hit, that it spawned two sequels and even plans for a US remake.
In the eyes of a Westerner, this would be considered over the top and on some cases not funny due to the lack of relevance. It wasn't aimed at a wide markey and was just for the Koreans, besides humour is a question of taste. Most Asians relate to slapstick or exaggerated comedy, plus it has a universal appeal. Wit and smart humour gets lost in translation.
I actually found some of the scenes to be really funny and excellently executed such as the brawl in the church and when they hire the beautican. In all fairness, it may not be an amazing piece of work but it is a fine example of Asian comedy and to be honest would like to see a US Remake of this, but without the Queen. I say Sandra Bullock or Lucy Liu could do a far better job. Suggestions?
To be fair, a lot of the humor is clearly based on Korean dating and marriage customs. This is actually one of the better canidates to remake - some of the stuff simply can't be translated.
That said, I thought the more universal gags were pretty uneven, though I did find some of them amusing.
I think the movie was good. I remember laughing a lot at the wedding scene.
shareim a 'westerner' and i thought it was really good comedy,with a weirdly sweet story. Granted some of the laughter came from the very poorly done subtitles, but the jokes and physical comedy were great, with some suprisingly cool action scenes.
mantis was a very memorable character, basically a great movie overall which i will be recommending to everyone i know!

true, plus the fact that barely nothing memorable happens during the whole movie, there isn't much of anything to set a plot :
* memorable characters ? nope
* good acting ? nope
* a logical flow of events ? nope
a really bad low budget movie for me
