violence against females in asian movies

I think that asian action movies are less reserved when it comes to violence inflicted by females OR violence against females...even if it's by men. But in western movies it's always girls against girls.

What do you think? Is it really so or is it just this movie?

To be honest, asia is less reserved about violence overall.

Yes. Asian movies come closer to treating women as equals in terms of on screen fighting and violence. In action films in particular, women are much more empowered in Asian film than in western film. Actually, I'd say this is the most true in Hong Kong and Chinese film.

Likewise, Asian films in general also have far less compunction about showing violence against children than in Hollywood.

Odd really since the west is generally more violent in reality yet our films are more reserved about violence in general - with plenty of exceptions of course.

I think that violence in Asian (gangster) movies differs from, in particular American, western violence so to speak. In Asian movies there are a lot of man to man fist fights or knives involved, whereas the (all-American) answer seems to be a gun. That's generalizing it, of course, and there are always exceptions to the rule. Plus it depends on the genre of the film.

I also have the impression that, generally, women mostly are only unimportant parts in Asian films, unless they are the heroine and then they are equal to men, or even better, when fighting, for example. And, yes, western films tend to have more man to man or girl to girl fights.

With regard to the level of violence, I think both parts have their equal share, maybe with a slight difference in depicting the violence.
