Such a Rip-off

This movie was a blatant rip-off of the AMERICAN classic "Scarface." The scene about him not bombing the car with the kids in it........the one man going rouge against his original crime organization........etc,etc. The best thing about this movie was Mohanlal's performance and that's it.

its actally based on real gangsters named dawood ibrahim

Whoa whoa wait there... rip off of Scarface?? You've gotta be kidding me.

That idea about not bombing the car with kids in it isn't something new. It was in many movies. Company is a good movie. Period.

OH MY GOD!!!

There are scenes in Don (2006) {Like the whole one man rebelling against his boss, the bathing in the bath tub} and Agneepath (Basically Amitabh's body language and the restaurant scene, his mom's issues with him, Sossa (in Agneepath, its Danny) tryin to make friends with the sharper fish) have been taken from Scarface but errr...... Company???

LOL, if that's your application then Next thing we know you'll say Scarface copied The Godfather, eh? since both movies have characters doing illegal *beep* wearing glasses and carrying guns (Michael in GF and Montana in Scarface). Both movies are based on underworld, both movies have a character that's an immigrant (Italian in GF and Cuban in Scarface), both movies show the rise and fall of the title character (GF 1,2,3 and Scarface), both movies have a theme music, both movies' central characters are married, both movies' central characters have people working for them, both movies have a scene where their own team mate get strangled to death, both movies have Al Pacino, both movies' central characters have the police chasing and keeping an eye on them, both movies' central character's sister lives a life full of sex and drugs and both their husbands were killed by the central character (Michael killed his brother in law and so did Tony Montana).... I am sure there are many Hindi movies (just like Company) that copied from Scarface and I'd like you to enlighten us with your knowledge.

I think the original posters point was that there are certain scenes in Company that are straight up ripoffs of scenes in other movies, and hes right. No one is denying the existence of Daud Ibrahim and the Indian underworld. However, when movies are 'BASED' on true events, it means that not everything in the movie is actually factual. The reality simply acts as a base or an idea, meaning the reality inspired a story. Thats what company is, a story. Its not a biography or the life and times of Ibrahim. Just like both the godfather and scarface are based on actual events, there wasn't really a Tony Montana, but individuals like him existed after the Marial Harbor debacle. Similarly with the Godfather, there really wasnt a Coreone family in New York, but it was based on the five prominent Italian mafia families that did exist in New York.

Yes, Ibrahim was the inspiration, but not everything that happened in the movie (maybe even 95%) actually happend to daud ibrahim in real life.

Not wanting to bomb a car with children and their mother inside isnt about ripping off "scarface"....... its called being a human being...

Jeez, this is almost as funny as the time I saw someone on IMDB say that Pan's Labyrinth was a rip-off of Disney's sleeping beauty because of the thorns and the rose and the fairies...

XD

hilarious.

There are a couple of inspired scenes - refusal to kill kids in the car , the cop scene where he killed frank with the cop across the counter and the cop saying no one kills a cop etc , sure these scenes were copied in company , other than that the story is pretty different , company is a movie well done.

smnair.....I hv no words for ur stupidity. I dont know how old ur, but saying a movie is a blatant rip off of some other movie by picking up one scene is ridiculous.

oh..and I guess u like Mohanlals performance and only his performance bcoz ur a mallu!!!!!!!! Grow up man.

Ajay Devgans brilliant acting and RGVs best work till date. RGV is an honest director and he does acknowledge if he copied something. Ex:- Tribute to GF in Sarkar titles.

reply

I agree that apart from RANGEELA, this is only RGV movie I like , but RGV being honest, I don't agree at all, he was so stubborn to resist that *beep* of his movie called AAG ripped off a masterpiece like SHOLAY, also if you see his ANTHOLOGY Darna mana hai/Darna Zaroori hai, most of 11 stories have been ripped from Tales from the Crypt series or movie...

Why so Serious ?

reply

Come on dude...it isnt a 'complete' rip off and Mohanlal was good but not better than Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi... You cant take away their and the whole cast's credit by comparing and accusing it ..and I feel that u r biased towards Mohanlal just coz you are a Mallu... I can understand since he is a good actor but not his best in this movie..

The car-bombing sequence was the only scene where an idea was ripped from Scarface. The movie was very original, nowhere close to being a rip-off.
Someone going rogue against his/her organisation is a very common trope in films as well as in real life.
