2 Thumbs up Kim Ki-Duk

I'm contantly mesmerised by his films. After watching his recent movies,I finally get to watch this. Amazing work...makes me feel certain emotions that not many films can. Wow,I was expecting there to be a lot of discussions regarding the movie over here...like the other message boards.

A friend and I are wading our way trhu all of Kim Ki-Duk's movies. We just have WILD ANIMALS and ADDRESS UNKNOWN to go untill we've seen them all. My friend found CROCIDILE disturbing...I found it interesting. I find the characters of Crocidile and the Bad Guy(in the movie of the same name) some of Kim's most arresting male characters. I really like that actor, tha high pitched voice he uses when exprressing extreme frustration notwithstanding.

I think few would not be mesmerized by the underwater shots in this film, so beautiful in contrast with all that occurs on terra firma. A summary of Kim's proclivities are all laid out in this work and he throws in a lot of themes in this one. It didn't appear as symbolic as some of his other movies to me, it was rather sraightforward but it had obbessive love themes, violence towards women complete with rapes, unwitting child assassinators, thugs, and cruel revenges that occurs frequently in Kim's movies. That storyline between that police sketch artist and crocidile was a hoot, and I haven't seen THAT particular sexual theme presented much in Kim's films, so that was interesting. The storyline with Grandpa was very sad but I did like the birthday party scene which seemed rather jovial among all the bleakness. I liked the little kid and the ending was incredible. The relationship between the woman who tried to commit suicide and Crocidile seemed like standard Kim fare.
