Yes, it has happened, sort of. When the powers that be don't come up with stuff, sometimes us little guys do the job for them. Kind of like when greediness of the rich and powerful and well protected elite resulted in some of the little guys taking to the high seas and getting some of the good stuff the only way they could and we get tales like Treasure Island with immense popularity. Search around the Internet hard enough and you can find this 1978 26-episode animation (for free) as well as English subtitles (for free and seem like decent ones to boot). Of course you have to become a pirate in the process . . . Some day hopefully the big guys will not be so stingy with the rights to these films and be more accommodating even when it won't mean mega-bucks for them. Really, I would much rather buy the darn stuff than to hassle around searching the Internet, downloading, re-encoding, etc., etc. If they stop being so greedy and confrontational, then piracy would surely die away, and we all can live in peace and watch all that good stuff including Takarajima with English subtitles.
