Unforgiven 99 Review

So the WWF outdid themselves. First they had the balls to let Vince McMahon win the Royal Rumble. Then they topped that by having him win the world title off HHH with an assload of help. He immediately forfeited the title and it's up for grabs in the sixpack challenge match which also features the newly returned to the WWF Daveyboy Smith in his last hurrah, before getting slammed in dog **** and decending into a drug addiction. JR and King as usual on commentary. Also the referees are on strike for a reason that im blanking on at the moment so ill list who filled in as corporate scabs.

Match #1

Singles Match

Val Venis Vs Steve Blackman

Referee: Steve Lombardi

Typical Raw match. Val stole Blackmans little gym bag full of weapons. Punching and kicking from Blackman as he works the back area. Val fights back and hits some of his favorites as it's back and forth and short. Val gets a money shot out of nowhere basically for the pin at 6:32. Val makes the dumb mistake of pulling out the kendo stick, and Blackman kicks him, grabs the stick and busts it on Val's head. Lombardi signals for the EMT's and Blackman mouths off to the nurse who doesn't look like a nurse and more like one of the bimbo divas they were trucking in at the time and the head of security Jim Dotson takes Blackman down. Nothing opener. 1 star.

Match #2

European Championship Match

Mark Henry Vs D-Lo Brown

Referee: Tom Prichard

Henry turned on Brown to help Jarrett beat him for the Euro title at Summerslam. Jarrett cheapened the title further by giving the Euro belt to Henry. Brown gets an early sky high that just doesn't look believable that he could lift Henry on his own for 2. Henry fights back and tries a runnig cannon ball onto D-Lo who is on the ropes but he dodges and Henry takes a nasty spill. Brown pulsl out a nice Con Hilo to the floor. Henry battles back with power and D-Lo pulls out a huricinrana, then a flying forearm. Henry stops him short and goes for the 10 punch but mocks D-Lo and gets sky highed out of the corner. D-Lo goes right up and hits the lowdown for the title at 9:42. This probably should of been the opener. 2 stars.

Backstage, wife beater Chaz gets beat up by some of the tag teams in an angle that never should of gotten ppv time. Jarrett tells off Debra and heads to the ring with Kitty.

Match #3

Intercontinental Championship Match

Jeff Jarrett w Kitty Vs Chyna

Referee: Harvey Wippleman

Chyna overpowers Jarrettt to start then Jarrett fights back with a crotch post on Chyna. She sells it like she's got something down there. Jarrett sends her to the steps and the post. Back in with a Jarrett crossbody off the top for two. Chyna does a Flair flip in the corner and gets superplexed weakly. Jarrett goes up top and Chyna hits an electric chair, but Jarrett
comes back with the usual sleeper spot to kill time. Chyna gets a powerslam and a and Jarrett gets caught in the huricinrana attempt for a powerbomb. Jarrett blocks Chyna's rana attempt into a powerbomb and tries a figurefour, but she shoves him to the floor, he flies over the top rope in his overselling way. Back in the ring and Chyna tries the Pedigree but he reverses into a slingshot, wiping out referee Harvey. Jarrett tries for the guitar, but Moolah
and Mae Young come in and slap him around, he drops them with a double clotheslin and me and Lawler laugh our asses off. Debra heads to ringside to sign off on the breakup with Jarrett by smashing his guitar over his head and Chyna gets the pin at 11:52 for the belt.........naturally head referee Tom Pritchard comes down to do the Dusty finish and Chyna beats the hell out of him and pedigrees him pretty nasty. Crowd was into this one, but the bait and switch hurt it. I didn't want Chyna to get the belt anyway or ever but I hate these types of finishes even more. Call it 2 stars. Didn't understand how Chyna was supposed to be a face here when she was still with HHH helping him cripple Austin and trying to break JR's arm amongst other things, oh yeah, she's fighting for angry lesbians everywhere against oppresive white trash like Jarrett.

Match #4

Tag Team Match

The Acolytes Vs The Dudley Boyz

Sure were alot of ECW guys running for the WWF and WCW in the summer of 99. Dudleyz have just recently arrived and in the WWF and this is during the time when Bubba Ray still had the stuttering gimmick. Bubba misses a splash and gets whooped by Bradshaw. Buh Buh gets a senton bomb for two, and Lawler spends the match laughing about Jarrett beating up the old bats earlier. D-Von
gets the tag and takes over on Bradshaw, but Faarooq tags in and gets some powerslams. D-Von escapes the Dominator by DDTing out and the Dudleys hit a doubleteam neckbreaker which JR calls the 3D for two. D-Von tries a moonsault but gets crotched and super belly to backed off for 2 1/2. The Dudleys manage to hit 3D for real, but Stevie Richards dressed like a spoof Acolyte complete with a UPN logo painted on his boobs runs in and stevie kicks D-Von so Faarooq can pin him at 7:29. Acolytes kill Stevie postmatch. 1 1/2 star.

Match #5

Hardcore Womens Match

Ivory Vs Luna

Fight breaks out backstage and never makes it to ringside. Luna slams Ivory in a printer and xerox's. Tori tries helping but gets taken out. Ivory grabs a pipe and whacks Luna for the pin at 3:37. Nothing. 1/2 star.

Match #6

World Tag Team Championship Match

The New Age Outlaws Vs Edge And Christian

So Billy is a good guy again after his King Ass flop singles run and the Outlaws are all chums again. Edge and Ass start off, then E+C doubleteam Road Dogg.
The NAO cheat to take advantage, but E+C oneup them and go full heel to
take control. They work the back of Dogg. The tag division is way better at this point in the WWF then a year ago. Road Dogg counters a spinebuster
into a doublearm DDT and makes the hot tag. Pier six, but the New Brood
interfere and Jeff Hardy missle dropkicks Christian, then Gunn hits the Fameasser on Edge at 11:05 to retain. Call it 2 stars.

Match #7

Hardcore Championship Kennel From Hell Match

Al Snow Vs The Big Boss Man

Most should know what an overgimmicked flop this turned out to be. I don't even feel like sitting through it. JR does his best to put over the rotweillers as vicious, but it's hard to be afraid when one is pissing on the floor in front of the camera. Al brought a bag of goodies with him, and he
gets hit with a few of them ironically. Bossman has thought ahead and whips out a pair of of wire cutters, and uses them to cut open a
hole in the ceiling to climb out of. Powder in the face and a stick busts Boss Man open. Bossman gets some shots with a shovel and the one shot has a hollow ring on Al's head. Snow gets handcuffed as Bossman tries to escape but Snow breaks the cuffs and pulls head out of the bag to KO Bossman and he escapes to win at 11:25. Ill be nice and go 1 star.

Match #8

Singles Match

X-Pac Vs Chris Jericho w Mr Hughes

Jericho's first target upon entering the WWF was Ken Shamrock. He injured him into retirement storywise pretty much and X-Pac is taking his place. Wrestling sequence to start, then Jericho chops. Jericho drops X-Pac on the top rope and chops him in the corner. X-Pac comes back with his kick combo in the corner,
but Jericho counters the broncobuster takes over. X-Factor is countered into the Walls of Jericho, which gets rolled out of, sending Jericho to the floor. Mr. Hughs runs interference, and Jericho hits a missile dropkick for two. Jericho with a tiltawhirl backbreaker and slingshot splash for two. Crowd is more concerned with some kind of bull**** going on in the audience for about a third of the match. I think there's an X-Pac sucks chant going on aswell, this might be the earliest documented case of that chant if it is. Jericho hits the Lionsault for two. Pac on the apron outside and Jericho with a springboard dropkick. Jericho whips X-Pac to the ropes, and on the way by the other side, X-Pac neatly dropkicks Hughs, then springboards back to nail Jericho. Jericho blocks the broncobuster with a low blow and hits a senton for two. Doublearm backbreaker and to the top, but X-Pac knocks him down and superplexes him for two. Jericho with the doublepowerbomb for two. Twice. Jericho gets sent to the corner and hooked in the Tree of Woe, and we get the first ever inverted
broncobuster as a result, with Jericho upside down. Hughes gets in the ring and pops the ref for a lame ass dq at 13:10. Pac gets beaten up and Roadogg makes the save. Im going 3 stars. Crowd wasn't fully into it and that ending was crap.

Match #9

Vacant World Heavyweight Championship Six Pack Challenge

HHH Vs The Rock Vs Mankind Vs Kane Vs The Bulldog Vs The Big Show

Special Enforcer: Stone Cold Steve Austin

Mankind wins the belt at Summerslam, loses it to HHH the following night then he loses it to Vince McMahon in a title change that I would rather forget and he immediately vacated it so it's up for grabs in this match. Bulldog has his traditional theme replaced by that lame generic rock theme. Two in the ring at a time and you can tag to any other 4 on the apron. Crowd is clearly in support of The Rock tonight. Austin does color commentary while enforcing. Rock and Bulldog start. Rock beats up HHH until Kane tags himself in. He destroys HHH, but pisses off the Big Show and gets knocked off the top rope. Mick tags in against Kane, gets clobbered, so Big Show tags in. Kane with the enzuigiri and dropkick and Bulldog tags in. He tags out quickly, leaving Mick and Show to mess around. Bulldog and Rock are next and a ballshot wins it for Davey. Mick gets the tag, but won't fight his buddy so he tags Kane. Tombstone gets reversed to a legsweep for two. Mick in with a piledriver for two. HHH and Mankind brawl on the floor, and everyone fights down the aisle. Mankind gives HHH a sick sounding pulling piledriver on the steps and gives him a wedgie at the same time, it's HHH so the combination of both aren't enough to stop him. Mick stops to allow Rock to get his shots in. The striking refs are out to kill Jim Corderas, the scab. Rock tags in and drops Show good with a clothesline for two. Big finisher finish. Chokeslam for Mankind, Kane jumps off the top with a clothesline on Show. Bulldog with the powerslam on Kane, HHH Pedigrees Bulldog, Rock nails HHH, and Mick finishes the sequence by applying Mr. Socko to Rock and Austin loves it. Rock reverses to Rock Bottom for two. HHH makes the save.
Big Show headbutts everyone and chokeslams Mick. The refs pull Corderas out at two and beat him up. Austin decides enough is enough, and goes over to clean house on the refs. No wonder they're on strike. In the ring, Rock DDTs
HHH, Austin dives in for a 2 and 3 4ths and the crowd jumps out of their seats thinking Rock won, Austin signals only 2. Rock Bottom and the People's
Elbow, but Big Show pulls Austin out at two. Bulldog nails Rock with a
chair, Austin nails Bulldog with the same chair, HHH gets the
Pedigree on Rock and Ausitn is forced to count it and HHH
regains the WWF title at 20:24. Crowd is less than thrilled. There not even booing. They just went quiet. Im going 3 1/2 stars.

Overall Opinion: started out slow, but it got better. I would of preferred the six pack challenge as an elimination match.

Final score: This show finishes with a 4.8. It's worth checking out atleast once.
