Why is there such a lapse of quality in today's Disney Channel?
I don't get it. They showed wonderful, quality TV movies such as this one, The Color of Friendship, and others, I'm sure, and today, that just isn't the case. Every other movie or show is about kids hiding silly, unrealistic secrets:
1. High School Musical
Troy feels compelled to hide the fact that he "can sing." This is completely bizarre. In real life, all the high school kids would either think it was cool, or not care at all. No one would think it was lame. Not to mention that the whole premise of the movie is a bit ridiculous--they could have really done something with this movie, but instead they give it a shallow plot and even shallower characterization.
2. Hannah Montana
Really, Disney, you couldn't do better than this? A blonde wig can really conceal the identity of a pop star? Absolutely no one sees the uncanny resemblance between the two? I won't even get into what I think of the quality of the music and script.
3. Jump In!
I'm putting aside my admiration of Corbin Bleu to say this: was this not a repeat of High School Musical? It was literally an identical plot: kid excels at sport, coached by dad; kid finds something he enjoys more, feels need to hide it; eventually, everyone accepts it. Silly.
4. That's So Raven
This actually was a very entertaining, humorous show, at least in its earlier days; however, I'm afraid it follows the same dry formula: main character must hide enormous secret.
5. Wizards of Waverly Place
Kid wizards--more secrets to be kept. Selena Gomez performs the show's opener terribly, and the show itself is littered with tired jokes and plots. Very orginal, Disney. Walter is turning in his grave.
Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do.
