People do not make fun of people who are challanged, it is very wrong and whoever does it will have a bad life. Alot of people at my school do not make fun of them and it makes you think that no one is that stooped to that level to make fun of a challanged person. It is a very good movie and it shows about a boy who is trying to be normal in a life of people who make fun of him.

Unfortunantly, there are still a lot of issues that people whom are "challenged" or disabled face. Few states have done away with institutions, which are often dirty and worse than conditions in nursing homes. Being an older teenager with a moderate hearing loss, I have experienced people making fun of me, and I can assure you that it still happens, espeically the more severe the disability. I am very glad to read that this doesn't happen much at your school, and I hope if you ever see anyone doing so, that you'd tell them that it's not right.
I love how this movie shows the emotions that people have when they go through these terrible experiences. Too often than not, people dehumanize those with disabilities, and I was so happy when this movie was made that they handled it so well!

Yes! It doesn't happen in real life. My cousin's mother actually took a bus with kids with special needs, my cousin would like help them out, hold there hands, etc.. and some of the people in her school (even her own friends!) say stuff like "How can you hold a retards hand?" Sorry to break it to you but that happens in real life.

Trust me, people make fun of them plenty. My sister is mentally and physically handicapped, and while my friends are understanding (just curious), there are many vicious people. There are people who feel the need to tell me that because she doesn't function "properly" she should be killed. (Some claim we're being cruel for keeping her alive.)
We've been pointed at, laughed at and talked about in public. We've had people feel the need to say inappropriate things to us if we dare take her out in public. (I guess we ruin their day by reminding them people like her exist.)
There were also mentally challenged students at my old high school. There were many who understood, but there were also those who taunted and teased.
You need to go out and check out reality sometime, sweetie. You either live in a very tiny bubble, or shut things out. Remember, just because you don't SEE it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Sorry about your sister. I think people act like that because they have low self-esteem and can't stand the thought of others being different from them.
It's not an excuse for people to make fun of the mentall/physically handicapped though. They need to get over themselves and be nice or just act like decent human beings.
Unfortunately, people DO make fun of people that are handicapped in some way. I think it's our school's fault for locking them away in a room all day, only letting them out of the room for lunch, and during classes when no one will see them. People make fun of them because they're not exposed to them. I remember when I was little (I moved to where I am now) my school had a kid with a mental disability in our class, and kids liked him. Some kids made fun of him because they didn't realize he was handicapped, which in a small way, is a good thing, because they thought he was just another kid, and not one with a disability.
I don't think it's ever good to make fun of a person for being disabled, but if you make fun of them for being a person like everyone else, at least we're not pitying them or alienating them.

Anyways, I'm very happy that this doesn't happen at the OP's school, but unfortunately it does in many schools elsewhere. This movie reminds me of how much hate fills our world, and how we just can't accept differences...
