The Mother..... good intentions or selfish monster (spoiler)

Warning spoiler ahead

Near the end of the film when Ana desides to go to college. Instead of opening her eyes she instead starts throwing a tantrum and runs off to her room. The Carmen character seemed like a prime example of a Queen Baby who will resort to one personality to another getting whatever she wants. When things were working in her favor she seemed to gloat like a queen, when things didnt work for her she started acting like a baby. In the end I was kind of hoping she would change but at the same time I felt happy for Ana to be free from that cow.

I agree. The mother was the weak point for me. I'm very sure there are mothers out there who are jealous hateful bitches and don't want a better life for their children than the one they had but she was painfully one dimensional.

i don't see it that way. yes i dont like the mother, but it's because she in a way reminds me of my mom lol although a more dramatised version.

growing up as a minority, i went through what ana did. as much as her mother wants ana to be successful and happy, it's hard for her to grasp the concept that ana's version of happiness does not include working long hours to make ends meet and get married and raise a family. she's used to the old way of doing things and she thinks her daughter will follow in that footsteps, and trust me, the concept of ambition is really hard for someone like her mother to embrace since she has nothing to base it on. all around her everyone lead a simple life.

usually kids like us with mothers like her has to push so much conventions and rise against alot of factors to achive our dreams. really hard when you have family guilt and responsibility pulling you down to that "simple life".

and as for the part about her throwing a tantrum, it's a side of her not knwing how to handle letting her daughter off in the real world apart from her. it's a weird way of showing love by wanting to put your kid in the proverbial cage, but it's the way her mother was brought up.
