In this Crash Bandicoot game if you finish the last level it says you have done it but just brings you back to the Lab level. Can someone help.

im not sure but one of my friends told me that in the first island a level called the great wall there are a secret level taking you to the final boss cortex

Yeah after you finish the final level I'm not sure if you can save it somehow.

What your friend was talking about was the alternative ending, in which you haave to ride the gems.

To get alternative ending- There are 6 COLORED GEMS that can be get in 6 different levels by getting all the boxes and not dying AT ALL.

BLUE GEM= TOXIC WASTE
GREEN GEM= LOST CITY
ORANGE GEM= GENERATOR ROOM
PURPLE GEM= LIGHTS OUT
RED GEM= SLIPPERY CLIMB
YELLOW GEM= LAB

Then you have to go and ride the GEMS in these levels...

BLUE GEM= JAWS OF DARKNESS
GREEN GEM= CASTLE MACHINERY
ORANGE GEM= NOT SURE
PURPLE GEM= NOT SURE
RED GEM= NATIVE FORTRESS
YELLOW GEM= LIGHTS OUT AND GREAT WALL (I GUESS)

HINT: To get the PURPLE GEM in Lights Out you have to first get the YELLOW GEM in the Lab then ride the yellow one, spin three boxes and you can then exit with the PURPLE GEM.

you will continue to be brought back to The Lab until you score 100% by getting all the gems. each gem you earn will act as another stepping stone in the great hall, when you have all gems, your starting point will be Neo Cortex rather than the lab, and by following the stepping stone gem path in the great hall, you can access the final ending.

After a year since I posted for help ? I think I will try the game again thanks to slidog313 & old_em for the advice but I'm not such what Elenator's friend must have told him but thanks anyway.
