how many people that bashed this film actually saw it?

will we ever know?

I saw it, actually, and laughed through out most of it. Some of it was because it was intentionally funny... most of it was because of the utter absurdity of it all. Basically, don't watch it unless you're a hardcore christian fundamentalist, otherwise the "My way or the highway" of placing christian teachings in public schools, regardless of the faiths represented, might be a little insulting. In other words, this was really made to be watched by church groups on church vcr's or dvd players.

I am sorry, but this movie sucked.

I rented this film expecting to see a time travel film, and it turned out to be a movie that was highly religious and highly boring. It sucks too, because I usually read the back of the box, but since I love films in the time travel genre, I rented this film blind.

The acting was absolutely terrible. The main character at times looked like he was reading his lines off of cue cards. I sat through the whole film waiting for something to happen, and nothing ever did. Maybe if I was a highly religious person, I would have enjoyed it more. But for me, it felt like I was sitting through a 90 minute bible session that at times was trying to rip off Back to the Future.

I agree completely.

The Passion of the Christ was an extremely well made movie. It had its own message and had its own version of the "official" story. It succeeded on most levels, due to expert craftmanship and artistry.
This on the other hand, is just drivel.

And you touch upon something that has always irritated me more than anything coming from the self-righteus holier-than-thou Christians (not you, obviously), which is the fallacy of believing that anyone who doesn't share your beliefs must go to hell. If we assume, for the sake of argument, that this is true, then what about those who never learn about Jesus and those who never get the option to make that choice? Is it fair that they automatically be sent to hell? Is that the kind of message we want to be sending people? That God's default position on you is to hate you and not accept you? That unless you choose to follow his message you will be punished forever and ever, even when you weren't aware that there was a choice to be made? What kind of BS is that?

Of course, as an Atheist and a skeptic, I've done what most Christians don't do, and that's read the Bible. Nothing will make you an Atheist faster than reading that book. It's so full of hatred, and inconsistencies and paradoxes which are unique to the thinking of man, that you must come to the conclusion that even if there is a god, he couldn't have written that book because it's so flawed. Besides, if he can make a sunset, writing or dictating a book seems to be a gigantic step down.

You're obviously not getting the point.
There is no God. There is no Heaven and there is no Hell. Get over it.

I'm not even sure if you have a point yourself or if you're just trolling.
Most of your post was pretty non-sensical and didn't follow much logic, so I didn't really give it too much thought, and I'm not going to respond to individual lines or paragraphs, except that last one.

If you're teaching your children something that isn't true, and is bad for humanity as a whole, how can that be even remotely OK? You're continuing the fallacy and perpetuating the problem.

Hwo can ther be no god, no heaven and no hell? Where do you think you go after death? God certainly is real and I feel bad for you that you don't know that.

reply

Because it's illogical.
Where were you before you were born?

You don't "go" anywhere when you die. You simply stop living and your conciousness ends. There's no evidence whatsoever of anything else. Not very uplifting, but hey, who said death was uplifting? It sucks!

It's not a matter of "knowing" it's a matter of "proving".
Can you prove there's life after death? Nope... nobody can, because all the eyewitnesses are dead.

-Dude, you got some Arzt on you.

I rented this flick a few months ago because it looked interesting. At first I was pretty pissed off because the acting sucks, the story is pretty awful and the message goes against a lot of what I believe. In hindsight I'm so glad I rented this. So glad in fact, I actually bought the movie. I have derived hours of pleasure watching it and showing it to friends. It's on the level of Troll 2. Almost. One of the best things that's happened when playing this movie for friends is watching them slowly get disgusted and then have that disgust change into a kind of outraged curiosity. I especially enjoy showing this movie to friends who are Catholic and Protestant. To a person they end up being confused as to why I am showing them this movie as I am an atheist. I guess I do it because number one, it's a funny movie and number two, to illustrate what fundamentalist thinking produces. Each one "gets it" and has pretty much agreed with me about how ridiculous the people in this movie, along with their message, seem to be. I would like to add that I bought the movie at a christian store and man, that whole place was totally awesome! I am not kidding. They had boxes with crown of thorns for sale that were real crown of thorns that looked really cool, which I almost bought and wish I had. The store was stocked full of cool merchandise like these sets of nine inch nails for crucifying someone and t-shirts with all these really christian sayings, other christian movies (I bought Bibleman with Buddy from Charles in Charge, it sucks) and books that to this day I can't believe someone wrote, then had printed up, bound and then distributed in large quantities. There were books about trying to bring gay people into the loving light of christ by showing them the error of their ways, witchcraft and recognizing its practitioners and a bunch of others I can't remember. Granted this store was in Missouri in a really podunk nowhere town, but it still blew my mind. I also bought a shirt that says "Son Lover" really big on the front, it's bright yellow and has some scripture on the back. You would think someone would have said "Hey guys, since we haven't had a really good reputation about our dealings with kids, maybe we should change some of the sayings of our shirts." Hmm, I guess they weren't Catholic. Anyway, I'm rambling now. So, not only do I own the movie, but have watched it multiple times with a few people and all of them see this movie for what it is. The attempt of fundamentalist christians to spread their message to the "lost" and a way to preach to the choir as it were. I'm guessing they succeed about half the time.

First off, let me say that his is not a trolling, this is just me stating an opinion.
What kind of sick bastard would torture somebody or allow somebody to be tortured for all eternity simply for believing something differently? Hitler did that, as well as Stalin and Mao and Jeffery Dhommer, and Pol Pot Sadamm Hussein. They all tortured and eventually executed people who simply believed differently then them. That is my main problemn with Christianity and the other middle eastern religions. It is, like this movie, My way or the highway. I mean you say that god is just, but there is justice and there is Justice. justice is going by the book and giving everybody the maximum sentance for a minumum crime. Justice is looking at the whole picture, taking in any extenuating circumstances, looking at whether this was their first offense, and anything else that might have caused this person to commit this crime and then adjusting the sentance accordingly. Your god is not Just, because if he was, then he would send only the Hitlers and Stalins and Maos to hell.
Well thats all I have to say, sorry if I offended you but that is just how I see it. I used to be a fundi-Baptist, but now I am a Heathen so I guess I take a fundi approach to Christianity. Stay heathen, stay free.

I love God, He's so deliciously evil.

I saw it once, almost twice but it was a repeat and I decided to do read a book cause once was enough.

More then enough.

reply

I saw it. Sky TV was showing it every couple of weeks a while back.

And yes, I think it's bad. Laughably bad actually.

reply

I saw it. Oh how I wished I hadn't. I will admit though I did rewind a few times because I found some scenes absolutely hilarious. The scene where the "time traveler" comes rushing out of the theater to stop the movie I had to watch at least 4 times it was so funny.

Hello Wishmaster300.

When the people like Temsi and other people that said that this movie sucked are burned alive, will they still be alive when they are speared or will they be speared after they've died? How do you picture (if you do) these people burning? Are the people doused with a flammable material or do you see them roasting over a fire (perhaps in hell)? How should the people be speared? Do you mean you want these people set on pikes while their bodies are held in the air or do you mean a spear should be driven through their bodies, staking them to the ground?

I don't hate you. I don't even know you enough to hate you. I usually don't bash Christians either. I just wanted to know how you wanted people such as Temsi and other people who said this movie sucked set on fire and speared.

No, no and perhaps, but I doubt for the reasons you believe. I just wanted to know what you envisioned (if anything). If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can start off by saying "Hypothetically I pictured..."

I saw it on TV. I was curious. And kept watching to see how bad it could get. It exceeded my expectations in that area. IMO the only way to enjoy it is to get together with friends and talk back to the screen. It would be a fine candidate for an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
