Not a great film but...

...I saw it again on TV recently and it was a good bit of fun.

There are also personal reasons that I like or at least remember this film, it was the first film my new friends and I went to watch together in my first week of university back in 2002 and I really enjoyed it, back in the day when I loved a mindless action film at the cinema. The avalanche scene was great, and I love the heavy rock soundtrack. I was quite that style of music at the time, all my friends were!

About the same time this came out you also had Die Another Day, which fits pretty much into the same category as this as a movie: light on plot, heavy on action. A bit of fun at the cinema but not great in terms of re-watch value.

You also had The Bourne Identity, which seemed to take these two films and say "Watch and learn, THIS is how to do a proper spy movie!" and would go on to be something of a style guide for the next 4 Bond films: Dark, gritty, plenty of action but plenty of plot and character development as well.

I'm glad the Bourne films came along and guided the Bond movies in the right direction, but I miss those times when I could properly enjoy movies like this. I saw Independence Day Resurgence earlier this year, thought that was terrible!
