bare ass !

There is one scene in the movie where William Hurt's character is on the phone to his wife. He is in his pyjama top only with a very bare ass leaping out at us !!! Not thats its not a very nice ass... dont get me wrong.... but totally unnecessary to the scene. Its a simple two minute chat on the phone to his estranged wife.Could they not have filmed it and let him wear shorts. Is it the rule in hollywood that actors drop trou at a moment's notice regardless of whether its of the remotest relevance to the plot or not. As much as I adore William Hurt, he was approx 50 making this, not exactly Brad Pitt, and the derriere could have stayed out of sight.

Hmm, I agree one thousand percent. I just watched this movie last night (I taped it off of CBC Late Night a year or so ago, and am only now getting around to watching it...). I would have preferred they showed Molly Parker's B.A.

Cute movie just the same.

Hmm. I don't doubt you would have, Eric. A friend of mine who adores William Hurt didn't like the bare ass either. In fact, it really upset her! Didn't bother me though. In any case it was not baring all just for thrills. He was in bed when the phone rang so obviously wasn't fully dressed and we only saw a brief glimpse anyway - more's the pity!

I would go to the end, if i was director; if the ass of William Hurt is on the screen, why he didn't smell his hands after he gave a foot masage to Molly Parker?
Naturalism to the end!

i love ass.

I don't know if they did this on purpose but you can briefly see William's groinal region (to put it nicely) reflected in the mirror in that scene as well.

I've no problem with his bare ass. I'm confident in my heterosexuality. Though, I will say it looks a bit flat. HEHEHE.

Personally, I thought Mr. Hurt's 51 yr old bum was Perfect. Love this film!

Really? This is an issue for people? Really? It wasn't the world's greatest ass, so obviously wasn't put in there for titillation reasons. It didn't sell any extra tickets. So why does OP think that a way should have been found to leave out that perfectly natural blip of film. If filmmakers left out everything from films that isn't absolutely "necessary to scenes," movies would be really short.

Definitely off-putting and completely unnecessary to the scene, one brief misstep in an otherwise very enjoyable movie...
