Columbus HP movies were the best

I'm a fan of the books and I like the first two movies best, especially CoS. The third movie wasn't bad, but four and five and six were so disappointing. The last two were darker, but worked well for me.

I felt the ones directed by Chris Columbus were more faithful to the books and really beautiful and innocent.

Me too. They were the books 'come to life' for me. Beautifully shot, essentially located in Scotland and the wonderful cast. Agree also with the very disappointing
GOF and HBP. Rushed, rushed, rushed.

I still prefer the Columbus films, and then the two Deathly Hallows. OOTP movie has grown on me, much more than the book. GOF and HPB and POA books were great, but not the films. I know some would disagree but I don't mind.

I liked the David Yates' direction.....his was more emotional and dramatic.

He did great work with The Sorcerer's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets, but he is also a family film-oriented director. The darker tone of the later books would not have fit Columbus' sensibilities very well, though I am sometimes curious how they would have turned out had he stayed in the director's chair. Yates was very good visually, but I always felt that he was clueless about how to direct action sequences.
