So the villain at the end was Voldamort?

But his memory or something? I'm really confused. I've seen this film twice years back.

Tom Riddle placed his memory into the diary. This would enable the holder of the diary to open the Chamber of Secrets. Later Riddle (now Voldemort) turned the diary into a horcrux. the memory and horcrux soul interacted essentially become one. Horcruxes can possess people and it saw it's chance with Ginny possessing her,having her perform certain magics,and nearly draining her life. This would have transformed the memory and horcrux soul into a living being. I can only guess that while possessed Ginny worked certain magics that would make this possible.

Yeah the villain was the memory of Voldemort. It really is vague and you're supposed to just accept it for what it is.

It does get more explanation in the 6th book/film. If you don't mind being spoiled... The diary is revealed to be a "horcrux," an item in which a wizard has stored part of his soul for safekeeping. Voldemort created several horcruxes(seven to be exact) so that in case he gets killed, he is still technically technically not dead, because his soul is safely hidden somewhere else. A part of it is stored in the diary, and in this movie Voldemort activated this horcrux to become "alive" again after being killed in the first movie.

Yep but he acted through as somebody else in this movie, it might be time for you to watch this movie again.

But hes not the real Voldamort right? Putting the who shall not be named in the first 2 movies makes the big resurrection scene in Goblet of Fire kinda dull.

He is the "real" Voldemort in the sense that he was a memory of Voldemort when he was a teenager - his real name being Tom Riddle. He is not the Voldemort of modern times who at this stage is disembodied and hiding in Albania. Had Tom Riddle defeated Harry, he would have taken Ginny's life force and become solid so there would have been two Voldemort's in the world. JK Rowling has indicated that this would have strengthened the present-day Voldemort considerably.

The Diary is a Horcrux, which is a container for a portion of the soul, ensuring that while it still exists, you can survive physical death because your "main" soul remains tethered to the Earth in incorporeal form and, eventually, be helped back to physical body should anyone choose to help you.
