Darkest movie of the series?

I know that the last few movies of the series, is supposed to have a dark tone. But seriously, this movie is about a monster, that has been hidden on Hogwarts for so long, snatching students from the corridors, children being petrified just by looking at it, giant spiders. When you think about how the school, has been hiding a dark secret for so long, it's kinda chilling. Even more so, that I understand it better now, than I did as a kid.

Not the darkest, but the threat in this one felt bigger in scale than in any other movie in the series with the exception of the last one. This time the threat was within, immediate, right under their noses and they couldn't figure out how to stop it.

If I was 12 and had seen this, I would've loved the giant spiders and the monster at the end. I believe I would've hated the first movie in the past. Nowadays it's sort of ok. But this one is so much better. And my younger self would've agreed, if he hadn't shunned everything and everyone related to Harry Potter.

Even though the later movies kept getting consistently more and more visually dark (to an almost absurd degree), I feel that TCoS is indeed the darkest movie of the series. It had an almost horror-like vibe to it in some scenes, especially when Harry hears the whispering in the walls. Plus I feel that this film had the best use of shadows in the series, and of the fires from torches casting them.
