Malfoy

So after this film, he becomes *such* a sissy little coward. I mean, at least in the first two films he had some aura of poise and confidence (even if he was an arrogant little *beep* and him and Harry had somewhat of an interesting dynamic. But in the rest of the series, it's just like "Wow, what a loser."

I guess that's mostly to do with the direction of the movies, as in how the directors shot it. The first two films were very accurate to the books, especially in how they depicted Malfoy, but every other film sort of just did whatever they wanted with Malfoy, in some cases getting sort of close (the sixth movie) and in other cases completely misunderstanding the character (like in the third movie).

I too prefer the confident, mysterious Malfoy of the first two films, but when Columbus left so to did accurate depictions of the characters.

Malfoy seems confident at first because he's a spoiled rich kid who assumes he will be handed anything he wants, and who doesn't realize he has any personal deficits. This changes in the last two books, when he comes to realize he's not the badass he thought he was. We see his true character when Hermione is being tortured in the Malfoy home - he doesn't have the cruelty to join in or the courage to object, he just feels sorry for himself because he had to watch torture.

So if individual film directors depict him as a weenie or a coward, I don't object.
