Why didn't the other teachers go into the chamber?
It's clear that McGonagall knows that Lockhart is full of *beep*

I agree, I think the director got Maggie Smith to play that bit wrong.
shareI figured McGonagall was expecting him to come back with some excuse for why he couldn't get in there. Perhaps wanted to catch him as a fraud.
shareThey don't know where the entrance to the Chamber is or how to get into it.
And if a 12year old student had run and said he knew where the chamber was and could produce the password in parseltongue, the teachers wouldn't have believed it. Well, Dumbledore might, but getting to him wasn't quick at the best of times
So Harry and Ron just went for it.

The other teachers had no idea where the entrance to the Chamber was, and Lockhart kept saying he did, so she just called him on his bluff. Either he does miraculously actually find the entrance, or he doesn't and nothing really changes, but at least they can call him out on his bullsht.

The other professors hadn't the faintest idea where the entrance to the Chamber was. Lockhart, on the other hand, insisted that he did, so McGonagall called him on his bluff. By some miracle he ends up finding the Chamber, or he does not and the situation remains the same, but at the very least the "great and mighty" Lockart will be called out on his obvious bullsh-t.
Yeah seriously she knew that Lockhart couldn’t save Ginny, another scene that bothered me was when she told Harry “this matter is out of my hands” as if she actually contemplated the possibility that Harry was a murderer
