Haven't read the book yet, but I have it on hold at the library and I can't wait to get it. I've never seen anything like this movie; it's visually intriguing and the cast did such an incredible job. The last portrait was probably my favourite.

Gosh, I barely remember the movie now! I'm going to have to see it again. Let me know how to book turns out, if you think of it.

Finished the book last week. It was fantastic! I read it and then gave it to my mom and insisted that she read it too. All the stories are unique and interesting. None of the women are similar to one another, and it makes the book such a fast read because the stories keep you on your toes by being intruiging in different ways.

I just found out yesterday from my co-worker that she got to read Personal Velocity in her Women's Studies class, and that they also got to watch the movie. I totally freaked out; I was like, I HAVE TO TAKE THAT CLASS NOW. Hahaha. I'd love to study Rebecca Miller in school. Seriously, I think she's so underrated. I was looking for a reason to rave about her and when my co-worker mentioned this movie, I just blew up and started talking about how great the book is.

just wondering what you are liking about this movie? that it gives people permission to be morally ambiguous and tells them that its ok to be? oh well this one is a mess because even though her father was a cheating pos and she found a faithful husband, she decides to be a cheating pos too because its in her nature, and here we have a vehicle that is telling people thats ok. im sorry you all feel that you need this kind of film. the characters in this film are neurotic and none of them seem like the kind of person that it would be a good idea to have a relationship with. im just trying to figure out the mindset of people who like this film and exactly why they like it and i have a feeling that it is not for healthy reasons.

I just didnt understand this movie being about females over coming some hardships and obstacles and taking back control. I just see any of those as good examples actually especially the cougar seen. When this movie was over I was so glad. It not one I would ever watch again. I was disappointed because it had some really good actors in it. I give this movie a thumbs down.

Kyra's character committed statutory rape, and THAT's seen as "empowering"?!? Since when? (She was mean to the woman that gave her a place to live after she left her slob of a husband, too.)

Just like in "The Reader" -- would that movie been as popular if a MALE concentration camp guard seduced a teenage girl?

Yup, when men act like predators, they're, well, predators.
When women act like predators, they're seen as being "empowered" or seen as "taking control of their destinies."
