Could U.S. Ever Be invaded?

Could the great United States Be invade if they could how would a country attack us?

reply

I think it could be done...Ever heard of sleeper agents? One assasination(preferably George Bush) andyour chain of command will be in chaos for a couple of hours(not too long, but enough for a solid start)....
:)

Invaded? Sure, why not? The real Soviets sure had the capability to do it. What you need is a build-up area for troops, then you must clear the way for them.
With enough military power concentrated to a specific target, there is no defence
that cannot be overcome. Nukes? Forget them. No one in this world is crazy enough
to use them, everyone knows what will follow. Attacking the U.S. requires planning and preparation, like attacking any country would. With enough time to prepare, China, the EU, Russia... maybe even Brazil could invade the U.S. Not that it would be easy....

...but it can be done. No-one is invincible.

difficult.

the US armed forces, for all the hype in the movies, is the most potent fighting force in the world. It has numbers and quality on it's side, plus potential enemies would need to actually reach to the american continent before anything. Countries like China don't have the boats or planes to move sizeable forces much further than their own border at the moment, the russians are limited too at the moment, the europeans are a mixed bunch (the only serious armies belong to the UK, France and to a lesser extent germany and Italy).

for the now I think the US couldn't be invaded by conventional force.

The EU isn't a country and doesn't have a unified army. The 25 members each have their own forces with different equipment and doctrines. Many of the smaller countries spend ridiculously low amounts on their forces thinking the bigger boys in NATO like the USA, UK and France will defend them.

China isn't a threat currently to the US asides from it's nukes (it's doctrine is based on defense btw). it's army's equipment is mostly copied from cold war soviet designs (until recently they kept their version of the mig 21 as a frontline fighter) and their troops are mainly conscripts. apart from that they also lack the logistics to move this cumbersome army around, they couldn't even get a good sized force on taiwan at the moment. The situation is changing as they develop home grown tech and buy off russian equipment but there is still a way to go.
on the other hand if the US was to try and invade china, they would have a very hard time. a VERY hard time.

Russia I don't know, things were pretty bad in the 1990s. It doesn't look good for now even if improving slowly. For years after the USSR collapsed the forces were starved of ressources, ships were written off tanks and planes weren't getting proper maintenance in some places, others were sold to other countries to raise funds... the good news for them is that spending is on the up at the moment.

Guys, don't you think such an invasion could have a really devastating effect on the world? I mean, if it wasn't clear who the attacker was, the US would probably blame everyone they could think of because of the paranoia. Oh, and do you think that in Red Alert 2 ,not Yuri's Revenge, such an invasion, excluding the fictional weapons, would be effective? (Sorry if the answer is obvious.)

Assuming we're talking about an unprovoked suprise attack (no political fighting before hand to suggest a war was about to start) they would certainly know who it was who it was planning to invade them, they would see it coming before the enemy could get them all on the boats or along the border (if we're talking Canada, Mexico). it takes time to build up an invasion force, the US would either notice the military activity thanks to spies on the ground, satellites, monitoring of communications or at worse a tip off from an ally. Even if they didn't notice the buildup, a fleet of warships and transports steaming their way towards the american continent wouldn't go unnoticed for very long.
As one of the pillars of the global economy it would obviously be devastating for the world is the US was to be invaded, which luckily for them is close to impossible.
Just to reach them you have to get past the most powerful and largest navy on earth, thousands of warplanes...they won't just wait idly by for you to offload an army on their doorstep.

I'm not some pro-american republican mouth piece btw, I'm stating facts. Unless the entire world suddenly gangs up on them, I really don't see how any one could invade the US. And even then they have good odds of winning.

Guess you're wright.

But say if the Russians signed some kind of trade-deal with Mexico. They would build secret factories on russian funds and support them with people. Troops could be sent there via oiltankers.

Then they could build up a strike force in secret and just roll over USA who would probably be busy fighting some war in the Middle east (just like in Yuri's revenge) Large amounts of their forces are stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan so a surprise attack would be devastating.

reply

a) the Russians don't have the money.
b) Economicaly the US is much more important to the mexicans than trade with Russia.

But if we ignore that, I think the US' various spy agency would be interested to know what all this new activity between Russia and Mexico was about. Factories going up, tons and tons of steel and other raw material coming in, etc etc ... IMHO in this day and age it just couldn't go unnoticed.

reply

But what if they were given help from the inside? Would it be possible to turn US spies over? People can be bought.

Besides, if the goverment were given a large distraction, a 9/11 attack again for an example, I don't think that their watchfull eyes would be on Mexico and Russia. If they used that opportunity while the American people were heavily confused, I think an invasion could work, but it would have to happen quickly.

By the way, the Russians wouldn't make a real deal with the Mexicans, they would make a play for the media and sell them oil or something like that. In reality, the huge oiltankers wouldn't carry any oil, but tenthousands of soldiers and vehicles. I don't think any spies would bother to investigate something that seemed like a ordinary oil shipment.

And they wouldn't have to put up factories and risk detection. They could build up a strong strike force and rush over the border and grab D.C. (blietzkrieg tactics).

Its been done during the war of 1812. British North Americans burned down half of DC before being forced to reatreat due to logistical problems.

reply

the best tactic i've seen is in the Simpson's the soviets going out of peace day floats

in reality Americans rely to much on communications and tech so the best tactic would be to start a proxy war in the middle east if their was not war already
wait till the troops were their boom the planes and ships. take out all of the American satellites and go in to the US by Oregon on subs while wait for it cause
a mega tsunami by dynamiting the Canary Islands.
