What the? How can a film this good not have an activity? I consider this to be one of the best representations of relationships ever put to film.. A damn fine, almost perfect film.

I agree. Although I watched this film late in one night, I was very impressed by it. It shows a very genuine picture of how relationships between men & women really works. Very touching film. Ji-tae Yu is incredible!! I appreciate this actor very much.

Maybe there’s hope

Agreed. I can recall having been in similar situations. Fine acting all round with two or three very touching scenes involving the grandmother.

Hur is one of Korea's finest directors. It's sad that his work is almost entirely unknown in the West (though he seems to have achieved a certain degree of acceptance in Japan). His "Christmas in August" was my very first Korean film - and still ne of my top favorites. "April Snow" got a fair amount of criticism -- which I find unwarranted -- a sthis is another achingly true-feeling film.

from http://www.koreanfilm.org/kfilm01.html#finespr : Few films have had as much influence within the Korean film industry as the 1998 melodrama Christmas in August. Despite its subdued tone and understated themes, the film in many ways revolutionized the way Korean filmmakers approach melodrama. Director Hur Jin-ho won over many fans both in Korea and in the rest of Asia for his ability to infuse everyday situations with emotion and meaning...

A very moving, beautifully paced movie that, with an interesting story line. Highly recommended. http://www.koreanfilm.org/kfilm98.html#august

CIA was one of my first Korean movies; I think the first one being "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring" (Kim ki-duk) or maybe "A Tale of Two Sisters" (Kim ji-woon), both movies scoring 10/10 from me, the latter, in fact, being one of my *very* favourite movies. This http://former.imdb.com/title/tt0365376/board/nest/51354084 may explain why. But you need a whole day to find out
