Why did this movie suck so much?

Honestly, the jokes aren't that different from the other movies, so why do I feel so negative towards the film? Anyone feel the same?

I completley agree. This film gets a bad rap for some strange reason. It made a ton of money too so it had to have good word of mouth at the time. I watched this last night for the first time and years and I was dying of laughter many times. It is now my new favourite Austin powers film. Screw the haters

Think problem was it was same old-same old and just built on far to much predictability.

First movie I recall being quietly successful, I missed it in the cinema but caught it on the rebound on video after hearing good things through word of mouth, and by which time Spy Who Shagged Me was only about a year away.

Goldmember I always felt was to rushed through and should have let the success of the 2nd movie die down a little bit, rather than just chuck a rehash of jokes from previous two movies (while they were still fresh) straight into our face.

I occasionally re watch this movie, and though not bad, does not hold up well against the previous 2 films

My problem with this film is making Austin and Dr Evil brothers. It didn't make sense to me and made the ending cheesy. I can imagine a sequel being Austin and Dr Evil stopping Scott which is very predictable.

reply

Not only did them being brothers didn't make sense, but the producers of the Bond movies like the concept so much it was used in Spectre

It's exactly the same as the first two films and that's the problem.

It was funny once, funny twice (with Fat Bastard and Mini Me introduced) but got a little stale the third time in.

"This film is just a mish-mash of random scenes" best sums it up. Just rewatched the 2nd and 3rd and the spy who shagged me flowed so perfectly and effortlessly but while watching the 3rd it was a little cringe worthy in spots.
Still laughed my ass off #AP4Please

I love all the Austin Powers movies but Goldmember is my favourite one it just seems to take itself less seriously than 1&2.

Law of diminishing returns. The same jokes won't resonate as well the second or third or fourth time around. I also never noticed how abundant and shameful the product placement was in this movie until now as I'm re-watching it on IFC.

It was boring.

i felt when i saw it that it didn't have much of a plot. i need a good story.

It is a tired, worn-out rehash of the previous 2 that sought to cash in on what was left of the good will. Then there is Beyonce too. Ugh. Meyers was always funny but had a tendency to cash in on popular jokes/humor that hadn't quite made the national rounds yet. For instance, Wayne's World jokes were all old by west coast standards. AP3 got to be the same way.

I'd watch a 4th one though.
