This sounds somewhat close? But they don't give up a lot of info...
TV Series have a tendancy to focus on characters and not the story. A trilogy of movies would be nice (TV Series might follow). Other that I agree with everything above.
1: Alien abductions. A new guy is recruited to the team (like suggested before) and doesn't believe in Alien and thinks is all a joke (so it might work with a broader audience), until he's in combat with the Aliens. This after a the X-Com airforce manages to shoot down a UFO (basicly the early operations in the game). As the movie progresses, bigger UFOs. Ending is a teaser for the 2nd movie.
2: Terror attacks on cities. The aliens are now strong enough to go strait for the people, and the X-Com responds, but their cover is blown, hard fighting we lose characters we got to know in "1". In the end they get to the base where the terror comes from, and kill it. Ending show several Alien bases being overrun.
3: Attack on Mars. After succeeding on Earth the invasion of Mars starts, but at the same time the aliens drop into the ocean. Success is achieved on Mars, but new the new terror emerges (from the deep), but this is also stopped. Ending shows some aliens running around somewhere up too no good. Which should be giving the impression that we might have a "4", which can be made if the makers like...
Man defeat alien, saves the world, all countries unite for the common goal... Classical Hollywood with lots of money and effects, no reason for this not to be made. People will like the story and the unhappy scifi fans will get a TV Series...
