What happened to the sex-scene in the trailer?

Does anybody know? In the trailer we see Christina Ricci's character having "sex" with the guy..umm..forgot his name. Well, the one from the village with whom she talks a lot and he's one of the Gathering-people too.

It was kinda odd to see that in the trailer (no, it wasn't hardcore, no titties or anything but still..) but not in the movie.

Well, I saw the film two days ago, and, here, in Spain, that scene appears, a little soon, I think, but, doesn't matter, and the guy is Ioan Gruffudd

I've just seen the movie, on dvd, here in Brazil, and both the sex-scene and the scene on that Cassie kisses Dan didn't appear.

I've just seen it in Holland, broadcasted by the BBC: both the sex- scene and the kiss- scene DID appear.

reply

I saw it yesterday on German Television and it included also both scenes.

Just read under "Alternate Versions" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0294594/alternateversions:

A longer version (ca. 10 minutes) of the film was shown on German TV (ZDF) which included more dialogue between Cassie and Dan, a sex scene and numerous other scene extensions. According to the ZDF, they bought this version directly from Granada before Miramax/Dimension picked it up and reedited the movie in their usual way.

Thanx Miramax :-S

I have the Thai/English version and it is not in it.
:-(
It clocks at 83 minutes. Looking around I've seen a UK release that says 92 minutes so it seems quite a bit is missing.

reply

I bought the DVD here in Belgium.
There are both version of the film in it :-)
The english version (83'08") is shorter than the french speaking one (96'52").
This is due for the most to the missing love scene that you can see in the french version.

There are also a lot of scene here and there that are shorter in the english version.

Nice movie by the way !

reply

It's in both the French and Japanese releases. I have no idea why they cut it out for the english release.

reply

I saw it in Panama, and there's no kiss or sex scene (thankfully!) I mean, that adds nothing to this little film, Ricci looks sexless and Gruffud here seems more gay than anything else.

reply

yeah i just bought the dvd here in the us and was QUITE confused to not have the scenes. a lot of holes in the plot...i bought it only to see Ioan Gruffudd.

reply

Bought the DVD yesterday in Belgium also, only the English version with Dutch subs is available on the disc though. And it's got the sex scene (and quite a few other scenes) edited out apparently. I feel cheated now :s especially since she talks about it in the interview extra. No idea why they'd edit out almost 10 minutes either...

reply

there was also a bit where Harry/micheal nearly gets hit by a car but cassie saves him , but that was cut out in the english version...?! very dissapointing cuz i was in that scene and my mum managed to get in the background of that pushing my little sister in a pram... grrr

reply

I saw the movie yesterday , it was gr8 , but non of these 2 scenses where there....i saw it at a arabian channel -Which dont cut anything, come on i saw many sex scenes there-
Anyway i dont think it's importnat to the Movie, Come on ....it's very gr8 movie without even a kiss,They're not Human ppl, that'd be sucks

I've seen the film some days ago ion TV (am from Germany) and bought the DVD today. So you can imagine how pissed I am that the DVD only contains the short version :(

Everyone can't be straight. Everyone can't be beautiful. Everyone can't be the same.

The Northamerican version was released yesterday, Jan. 30th, and there is no sex scene... only a chaste kiss on the forehead.

Oh, man, I just finished watching this in the US (courtesy of Netflix) and logged on to check out a couple of things {primarily to confirm that it was actually made in 2002 (!?!), and after reading your remarks, Lathe, it struck me that I too was waiting for a cheesy love scene that never happened right at that same moment in the film. Funny how we're programmed for these scenes; it was downright SHOCKING to me that a sex scene didn't ensue. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed, because I'm always up for a bit of Christina in dishabille, but from the trailers I've viewed for Black Snake Moan, there's plenty to look forward to on that count.
As far as the movie was concerned, I'll give it a 5 or 6 rating once I wake up tomorrow. Interesting creepy premise, but after having recently seen the DaVinci Code, it pales in comparison, IMHO.

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

So, those that actually got to see the sex scene, please report--just exactly what are we missing? And please...be very specific concerning both parties :)

Oh my God, you guys, you won't believe this.

The German channel ZDF bought the movie before it was edited for the final DVD release. So basically the only chance to see the "Director's Cut" of this movie in the whole world is when it is shown on this German channel! I am not kidding. I couldn't believe it, too!

Dammit, why didn't I tape it?

How shall I describe it? It's very nicely shot, very intimate and not dirty. It's really one of those literally LOVE scenes and not sex scenes. Ioan Gruffud lies on top and the camera is above him and well, he, makes love to Christina.
God, how I loved this scene! So full of emotion and intimacy, very, very nice...

Hope I could help..

It's on the English language version I saw. Need to check what region. You didn't miss much though apart from seeing that bloke's arse. Didn't need to see that, thank you. Christina was well concealed under this lad.

reply

"You didn't miss much though apart from seeing that bloke's arse."

Hey, I love Christina, but I actually would've most wanted to see that bloke's arse.

It seems we didn't miss much, besides, a sex scene between the two, considering who they are and the theme of the movie, just doesn't seem to fit.

reply

At the point the sex scene takes place we don't know yet who they are.
Well, everybody who sees the film for the first time, I mean.

Everyone can't be straight. Everyone can't be beautiful. Everyone can't be the same.

Quite the opposite, I think. To me it seemed odd when Cassie came to Dan to talk about her visions and to cry, while they just met briefly and apparently nothing happened between them (as it seems in the short version), like having a crush on each other, getting close or becoming friends.
Also, I found it strange that Cassie yelled at Dan at the police station, as if he really has been close to her. Well, he was, but that becomes clear in the uncut version only. It seemed so just for two or three moments: Like someone said, you almost could expect it, but of course with 10 minutes missing (and as the lucky ones here did report, lots of conversation between Cassie and Dan), it does not affirm.

I felt that the film had plot holes when I watched it first time. Afterwards, I saw the interview with wonderful Christina, in which she was talking about a sex scene with Ioan (Dan). I was puzzled and found out about the rest here, that there are in fact plot holes.

Damn, I wish I could get the uncut version! The film would be nicer and more beautiful with a little more spice in it. Disregards to Miramax or whoever is responsible.

reply

I thought the most stupid mistake Miramax made here was to sell the uncut version to a German TV channel and not let the rest of the world see it. Sense? Why didn't they just add the scene as a deleted scene to "extras"?
