Little Boy at the end of the film

Any thoughts of who that could be? He didn't appear to be the same actor who played his son at a younger age. An apparition, perhaps? His new son?

Edit: Ok, I just checked the credits and he's listed as "Eskimo child" so maybe he's just some random child who wandered into the house

Could this last scene be several years after the Nobel Awards? Maybe Leo has found peace and a new life and now a new family.

I wondered that as well but who knows... Very interesting film overall. Thanks for your reply. This board is a tad bit silent

For the happiest ending, the little eskimo boy at the end suggests to me resurrection and a new life. He gets a second chance. Remember Paul asks him if he beleives in resurrection and forgiveness when they first stop after Paul begins to follow him. Since his children are at the Nobel awards speaking for him it suggests he did not resurface to the world and only they know he truly is not dead....although to them he is. In addition he can no longer write, they stifle him.....he needs a new beginning since he really did not die in the accident although the world beleives that to be so.

I agree with this interpretation and I think the overlaid Nobel recitation describes this resurrection as the final scene in the snow is played out. Also, the film's opening image is repeated at the end- Depardieu's face in the cold water: a new day, life repeats itself and comes full circle.
