Question Regarding the Ending (Spoilers)

I don't get it. I mean, did they die??
They were walking away from the group of Soldats.
Then it shows the watch and you hear 2 gunshots.
Anyone wish to explain it to me??
Thanks.

Yeah, I was unsure of that as well. But its an open ended thing really. Film makers like doing that, to make you think and whatnot. It does seem that the Soldats would have them killed since they know so much, and it was hinted at the end. But it could go either way.

The gunshots you hear come from Kirika's Beretta and Mireille's Walther.

My view on this is that those Soldats were too afraid of Noir to act, even when Mireille and Kiruka had their backs turned. Think about what had just been accomplished. That's why they "stood aside", because they "feared the heart of darkness". Also, I think the Soldats still have plans for Noir, and killing them would waste all the lives sacrificed for their training.

I looked into this a little and the popular theory is that the guns shots, coming from Mireille and Kirika’s guns, is supposed to signify the death of Noir not Mireille and Kirika themselves…

I think the gun shots are supposed to represent shots coming from Kirika and Mireille returning to their assasin jobs..

Hmmm...Interesting. (rubs chin)

No, they didn't die.

The gunshots are from Mireille's and Kirika's guns (Kirika's is in the lava, she'll need to get another first...)

The two *faded out*. The episode was over. The watch isn't sitting on the stone, it's in Mireille's purse.

There were no Soldats waiting in ambush.

The shots are a symbol, either of ending or beginning. Or both - ending with the Soldats and striking out on their own. But watch the closing credits sequence *carefully*. There are spoilers in it that you won't recognize as spoilers until you've seen the series.

(There's even an insight to the closing credits from the voice actors in the funny commentary on DVD4.)

Basically, the girls are still in business, still together, and much closer than they ever were in the series. Whether they're still Noir - they have earned the name, and are bonded as the True Noir, but they're not subject to the Soldats. I think it's a good chance that purging the evil of the Soldats is their primary goal now.

As for a suicide pact - which I've seen suggested - Kirika lost her death wish in the lava pit, when she learned of Mireille's feelings. Mireille abandoned her oath to kill Kirika when she found the letter, and learned of Kirika's.

(
Before the letter, to herself: "I will kill you, Kirika."

After the letter:
Breffort: Do you mean to fight the entire world alone?
Mireille: Not necessarily alone.
