My Favorite Full Length Anime!

Not that it matters but I love love LOVE this anime.

I'm a fan of anime but I'm mostly a fan of 13 episode series because they feel like actual singular stories since usually no stories are fluff.

My faves are:
Serial Experiments LAIN
Gunslinger Girl (oh my god FANTASTIC!)
Elfen Lied
and the two short Full Metal Panic series
Fumoffu (no plot but what the hell)
The Second Raid (fan-freakin-tastic!)

But there are a few full length 26 episoders that hold my attention.

R.O.D.
School Rumble
Chobits

btu few more.

But NOIR is just amazing. It kept my interest and I've watched it twice through. Sure it relies a btu too much on mexican standoffs at times, flashbacks are far too many and theres a great quality decrease in some episodes but it's stilll a great series.

So, any series that are like it?

And any fave episodes anyone?

And for once its a series that has a dub decent enough that I can listen to it while working. Most dubs are atrocious and I cant bear to listen.

You should watch Cowboy Bebop, it is excellent. It also has the best anime dub I've ever heard.

Now and Then, Here and There is 13 eps and good i heard (i have yet to see it but i am going to check it out soon)

here is my list.

Berserk - (VERY violent and the there is no ending really.. if you don't mind looking at the manga then you will enjoy it... i think it is still on going and when it is done they will hopefully complete it) 26 eps

A Vision of Escaflowne - (no flaws and no fluff... Mecha anime just to warn you if it ain't your thing... though that is not as main a point here as other shows) 26

Fullmetal Alchemist - (great action meets a great story and it is VERY pretty) 50+ eps no filler (thats right no filler with 50 eps)

Cowboy Bebop (someone already mentioned it... and for good reason)

Trigun - (the first 13 eps are average... the last 13 are very good) yes a little filler.

Hellsing - (it is just missing some soul... a good 13 eps no filler good music good action and vampires)

Neon Genesis Evangelion - (Mecha anime... the journey is good but the destination is wanting... they made a movie to finish it but it doesn't live up.. so unnessicary parts and some eh... moments) 26 eps

FLCL - (it is impossible to explain... the plot is odd.. very pretty and the action is good) 6 eps and it is OVA

Love Hina - (a harmless romantic/comedy.. funny with some pretty artwork and some truely touching and gutwreching moments) 26 eps

I essentially agree with everything you just mentioned as all those shows are amazing.

I've come to enjoy Ghost in the Shell:SAC even though at first it seemed like it had no point.

Paranoia Agent was an odd show that at times seems overrated but overall was enjoyable.

Samurai Shamploo is great but is full of it's share of filler episodes.

Filler episodes in anime is very necessary because they subtley enhance individual characters by exposing their humanity. Besides when you are watching a really good anime, you never really want it to end. So even if an episode in particular is "filler" its still more of your favorite characters.

Particularly what is drawing me back to anime is how each season honestly tells ONE STORY. Along with my film studies I've been working on some anime as well and I'm beginnign to see some as novels themselves. Sure filler episodes exist but they seem rare and are actually almost never superfluous.

NOIR did it for me. Gunslinger Girl does it for me. Elfen Lied is more like a 4 hour movie....though I so wish they could've continued it on to do the rest of the manga making it a 26 series as opposed to a 13. But still, great stuff.

And I tried to avoid it but I think I'm being seduced by that big boy of anime. Neon Genesis Evangelion. I saw a few early episodes on Adult Swim studying last night and no effect. Pretty but couldn't see the drawl. But a week ago I caught an episode and it was exploring the human mind in detail I've only seen in the rarest of cinema. Never in animation.

SO yeah. Anime is great! One day I might even go to a comicon thing.

Though I'm still turned off by the animes that seem to go on and on. No 150+ episoders for me.

1) Fullmetal Alchemist- one of the best among the best as for me

2) Paranoia Agent- 13 episodes, dark, really good soundtrack, besides, al Satoshi Kon's movies are great

3) Witch Hunter Robin- really, really good, with interesting plot

4) Now and then, here and there- short, but powerful

5) I, Me, My Strawberry Eggs- Love Hina kind of, really funny

6) Cowboy Bebop- already mentioned, worth every minute;)

7) Noir after 12th episode, the first 12 are kind of boring, too many retrospections

omg, someone who knows gunslinger girl,i don't like it when people compare it to noir (or even accuse it of copying noir) ,though i love both,it's the perfect exemple of how you can do two completely different shows with the same very basic concept (girl with guns)

And i completely agree about trigun, during the first half i was like "meh" and during the second i was like "wow!".

I wish they'd do a sequel to GUnslinger Girl (the anime ends at the half way point of the manga- there's like 3 whole new girls to meet!).

Either way I started this post a year ago and back then my favorite full length anime was Noir but I have to change that-

Neon Genesis Evangelion has me hooked.

Obsessivly even.

lol, seeing as Noir is on the very bottom of my list of animé, I will just name you anime that everyone else hasn't yet.

Now some I list are pretty much serial animé and go past the standard 26 episodes (hell, 26 episodes is 1 arc of story) but they're worth mentioning:

Samurai Champloo (Oh yes! I wouldn't say it has filler moments at all.)

Full Metal Alchemist (episodes 1-26 are amazing. Then 27-52 really is heartbreaking and amazing too)

Giant Robo (it's only 7 episodes, but they're all 45-50 minutes each in length. I love this)

Tenchi Muyo: GXP (Sure most of it is light-hearted fluff, but it's enjoyable and not at all serious).

Tenchi Muyo: Ryo Oh Oki! (1-13 was good. 14-20 is average, but it makes sense and makes an okay closure I think)

Naruto (*cough* Buy the Uncut Volume 1. Those collect the first season 1-26. Very complete arc and story in themselves. 27-52 is average. 53-78 is amazing. 79-104 is good. 105-130 solidified the series as one of my all-time favourite series)

One Piece (Unfortunately the DVDs you buy and on american TV is the 4kids edit, which is absolutely rubbish. You're going to have to download fansubs of this TV show. It's definately in my Top 3 favourite animes. Once you get past 26 episodes, you wont be able to stop. 290+ episodes and one of the most popular anime and manga series in Japan, believe the hype!)
