Altena's obviously of European descent, and looks like she's in her late 30s or early 40s. So, IYO, in the flashback where we see her as a little girl in a war zone, presumably somewhere in Europe, what war was it?

Her the Soilder look European but Anime tends to not very sucratly, reprsent Ethnicities, thou Noir is more acurate then Usual (The only time I can actualy recall seeing Slanted eyes in an Anime).
It could have been that atempted revolt against the USSR by Czechoslovakia.

No, it couldn't. The Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia didn't result in any kind of war, in fact, it left only very few casualties (many of which were public suicides) and little material damage. It doesn't correspond to the bombed hell-like place of death in Noir at all. I ought to know, since I've spent all my life in the area.

Assuming you're talking about the timeframe between 1960-1970 there weren't really any major war in Europe, but if you look beyond Europe I guess something like the Six-Day War around Israel, the Vietnam War, or the Angolan War of Independence might qualify. I don't think the anime specifies the exact background detail so I guess it doesn't really matter, it's just some tragic past that has traumatized Altena during her youth.

Supposly there is some connections between Noir, Madlax & Hunter of the Witch, & they are part of a trilogy. I just got the boxsets of Hunter of the Witch. Idiots like to make anime seem like it is a better form than american stories, (it just depends) so unless the series makes some huge interconnections with Noir & Madlax, which I doubt, but I assume Altena's flashback war could be shown in either of those two shows.
But I doubt it.
