well, coudln't they... ?

couldn´t they just throw rocks at the guy?

reply

Yeah, they could, but apparently Murray's a good shot, and he nailed "Shark" real, good on the head with a nearly fist sized rock... What they coulda did was, have Shark step out for a few minutes, or out completely depending on how bad he got hit (IE Head shots) and have everyone keep hitting him... Really, since they refused to use guns*Spoilers*!(except for the end, since it was morning time and they had no choice LOL. Whole night of NOT getting him) their best shot was using the rocks...

Also, Even if Murray is a good shot, he's still getting hit by 3 outta 5 rocks, before he catches one. So eventually they would wear him down... Although Shark shoulda smartened up and said "Aim for the head!" cuz he'd be down after about 6 rocks at the most. Then game over.

I think Shark was being a wimp... I mean dude coulda took a breather, or did some moving while he threw, 'cause dude was in one spot.

well the problem is if the rocks worked there would be no movie. what i think woulda been a better explanation was if they gave him a much thicker trenchcoat so the rocks were just flat out ineffective.

their approach was that he was beetter with the rocks then the gang :P so perhaps my best advice for this one is "suspended disbeleif"

reply

About the Trenchcoat; I think he had on at least 4 layers of clothing... I'm guessing the shots to the legs, hands, and head were the only shots that did any real damage.

They could have kept throwing rocks, climbed up after him, thrown knives or even better they could set the tree on fire. This movie was hard to believe so I didn't like it much.

reply

Problem is when you set the tree on fire how long do you stick around to enjoy your handy work?
Til the firemen and police show?
Being in a group doesn't make things easier...one gets caught - they all get caught.
I think while throwing stuff at the guy can work if he climbs high enough he can use the tree for cover which he did.
I'm surprised they didn't shoot him outright if they wanted him bad enough...it seemed that they initially wanted to mess with him a little but then things got heated.

reply

YEah, they didn't believe in guns apparently. "KC:Can't prove nothing with a gun, meat!!" and he bangs the tree with a bat...

Canadian film, right? So unlike if it were American, and loaded with that horrible misinterpretation of the Right to Bear Arms, the directors, writers, and producers, simply wouldn't have felt it was necessary to resort to guns. This is, even, to say nothing of the fact that there are statistically fewer gang-members with guns in Canada, a fact frequently lost on Americans who watch films from up North and make that kind of observation. Plus these kids aren't actually a gang, in any traditional sense of the term, except that they hang out together and act disenfranchised.

...and that's on top of the fact that to shoot the protagonist outright would make for a very short film. The use of a loaded weapon after all other options fail was all part of the building tension; and one that worked well.

They also try to mug people in the park and carry around baseball bats with which they intend to hit people.

Yeah, just “hangin’ out.”

OR... there would be a better movie, one that made sense.

i hear this argument a lot: if so and so were realistic, then the movie wouldn't happen.

i think that's a pretty sorry excuse to insert unrealistic situacions on a movie.

reply

Well some people like to watch only realistic movies and other people like to watch movies that go behind realism somtimes. To each their own I'd say. This movie never claimed to be realistic. :P

reply

He climbed up high enough so they couldn't hit him very hard, by the time they got to his height in the tree they were able to be caught.

And yes, it's a movie. Especially small cast/single setting movies like this. But alas, they are a favorite genre of mine. This is a very solid entry in it.
