He actually called her "dog sh*t" in this one?

Seriously, a good guy hero played by the charismatic Jason Statham who no doubt went out of his way to come across as a likeable guy actually calls that Asian lady, an innocent woman who he is supposed to rescue, dog sh*t? Man, that's not exactly nice and in good taste, might even be seen as insult.

And then SPOILER - to cops die in his car explosion, or was that before it?

Oh well. :)

He's not a good guy in this movie. He's an anti-hero.

The sequels made him more heroic.

reply

Well, kinda true, but he is sort of a hero. The dog bit was just poor and vulgar humor under stress and the death of two cops was unintentional collateral damage. By the way, same year Collateral Damage (2002) with Arnie came out and Statham two years later made a cameo appearance in another film called "Collateral" (2004).

He is sort of a hero, that's why I said anti-hero. Sequels ramped up his heroism and removed instances of collateral damage.

No worries then again I usually think of folks like Travis Bickle from "Taxi Driver" (1976) for proper anti-heroes. :)

reply

Hmm...that's a good point. I never really see people discuss it but there really is a variance in how people use the term anti-hero.

I think of Jason Statham in this movie the way I think about Ryan Gosling in Drive. And I consider Ryan Gosling an anti-hero there. But these characters are obviously different from Travis Bickle.

Hmm, maybe I'm the one who's using the term too loosely.

No worries. :)

There was a rumor that his character in Collateral was supposed to be The Transporter. I don't see it. He acted completely different in that movie.

reply

"completely different" seems a bit of an exaggeration. He only had like one line in Collateral. I feel like it could have easily been Frank imo

reply

The character he played in Collateral was nervous as hell and afraid of Vincent. No way that was Frank.

reply

Nervous???? I don't think that "enjoy LA" line came from a man who was afraid.
